If the power had gone out the engine would lose spark. The ign kill switch has to have power to keep the juice flowing from the ign batt to the ign.

I have tested this since i had a similar crash on a pcm 72mhz plane a couple years back. The plane had a kill switch and fromeco 4800 bat on rx the plane never went to fail safe and the engine never died before crash and was going full power. The batter was destroyed literally not just separate cells so i couldnt test it. So i set up a volt source that i could lower the volts until i lost control of the servo it was about 3 volts and guess what the kill switch kept going and no failsafe since the rx could see there was no loss of signal. So the only way my crash could have happened with those symptoms is if i had used up the battery to about 2 to 3 volts enough for the rx to work but not enough to move the servos.

hi guys,

just so ya know haven't heard anybody trying a twin in the 101, well let me tell ya the bme 110 fits in the cowl just fine and balances perfect! using standard muff's it's got ignorant power, ie: more power than batman, superman, spiderman and the incredible hulk put together! and is actually a tad lighter than the da-85 with a pipe. just wanted to let ya know that's the twin that works on this plane.

For anyone using the Greves pipe with DA-85, do you need to cut the bottom of the cowl for airflow, or do you let airflow go thru the tunnell.

Also would appreciate any pictures of pipe/header installation.

Sorry I never checked the balance on mine. Everything seemed perfect after flying it as I had it set up. I'd go by CG stated in the manual if your set up is different than mine.

Open it up a little like 3"x4" or so. Engine needs more cooling. I haven't set up mine with pipe so can't give you any pics

Thanks Reza, cowl is now cut. Everything is done on my Yak except exhaust. Will order it next week from DA. All-up weight without exhaust is 24 lb 4 ounces on a very accurate scale. I was hoping for a little lighter since I installed a carbon fiber gear. Did anyone weigh their Greves header and pipe?

Actually mine came out at 24 1/2 with the stock gear and slimline muffler!
You'll love the performance at that weight. Wait and see

My airplane is complete except balancing, which I will be doing as soon as my buddy gets here. All-up weight with Greves pipe, carbon fiber gear (-7.5 ounces), Dubro 24 oz fuel tank (saved 2.3 ounces), no spinner, 2 each (2000mA) receiver batteries (13.5 ounces): 25Lb 5 ounces.

This was the fifth trimming flight on the plane and the second that day. The plane was flying at approx. 200ft and level. The plane started a roll to the left and went into the ground with the engine running. At the time this was happening, the pilot commented he seemed to have lost complete control and showed me he was moving the sticks with no reaction from the plane. One of the elevator channels (left) looked like it was fully deflected upwards.
On the ground, we tested all, the controls and surfaces and everything was working as intended. We could not find anything to indicate a malfunction. Battery testing showed them fully charged (one was 6.71v and the other one 6.68).

Setup of the plane –
Tx – JR 9303 DSM2
Rx – Spektrum AR9100 connected to soft switch (red lead cut per bulletin)
3 remote antennas
2 A123 2300 mah batteries (new) heavy gauge wire and EC3 connectors, no regulators, no switches
6 servos - 5 Hitec 5955 and 1 JR 8711
1 Smartfly optical ignition cutoff on gear channel
1 A123 2300 mah on separate ignition circuit with switch

Questions –
• How come the failsafe did not kick in and idled the engine with surfaces neutral?
• How come the ignition cutoff did not kill the engine? Was there any radio link loss?
• Is this equipment safe to fly?

Since we have had quite a few JR DSM crashes at our field lately, I am considering putting this equipment on hold and looking for an alternative. I have several transmitters and receivers of that type and feel uncomfortable putting any more giant scale planes in jeopardy...

I've packed the entire system and sent it to JR today after talking to them. The JR tech said that he tought, based on the description, that the plane lost power on board (hence no failsafe and/or no engine cutoff). Sounds far fetched to me on redundant A123 packs... Also, if Rx loses power, the Smartfly would kill the ignition...

I got out of 2.4g systems as did most membes of 2 clubs I'm in touch with, just too many crashes and glitches, and thats all brands. I had the spektrrum DX7, and totally lost control of my favourite glider 2 mins after bungy launch. I had a near new 4500mah pack freshly charged, was 3rd flight with all new jr servo's and switch, so should have had enough power for 5-6hrs flying. 20 min after I lost my glider another plane went down, also 2.4g on Futaba. that was a smaller extra running a 91 OS. The club I go to now has no-one on 2.4g. the number of threads on here about 2.4g make for scary reading, and I have now gone back to 36hz just too many questions with no satisfactory answers, and the answers we get here basicly say we havent a clue about rc

Hi, Reza

I'm another guy who bought this great looking plane and have some questions if you don't mind.

* I'd like to double the hinges like you did. I have some HD Dubro hinges with cotter pins # 257 but they are smaller then the supplied hinges. Are those ok to use or should I get some other ones? If so which ones?

* I'm a Futaba guy so I have futaba servos and some hitec servos. Will single Futaba 9156 (340oz) or Hitec 7995 (330oz) handle the rudder? Then I have Hitec 5985 (170oz) for wings and elevators, is that ok?

* Cutting the 1" section off from the header is only for DA 85 or for every 80cc class engine? I will be putting ZDZ Super 80 with Greve pipe in this plane.

Thank you

Pavel

P.S.

I really like your flying and the flying field. The view is just incredible.

Best regards

Man sorry to hear about your crash, nothings worse than a crash with the radio working on the bench. I don't know what to tell you about the DSM thing I flew 3 helicopters last year with my 9Z 9C with spektrum modules in them without so much as a single glitch. I liked it so much i bought #2 DX 7's, one for helis and one for planes. Flew last 2 years foamie seasons with DSM no problems. Some of the things I have found is with alot of digital servos and the "C" ratings on flight packs. We had a buddies 40% yak hooked up to a meter, stalled all the servos and drew far more burst amps than my fromecos could supply, but like I said we had no "reboots" or failsafe issues. I'm sure they looked at it, but did you check the "infamous" rubbing wire inside your 9303?

1. Yes you can
2. Should be no problems to do advanced sequence with it.
3. 26x12, 27x10th, 26x10 (All Mejzlik)

Hope this helps,

.When I installed the greeves pipe I found my experience to be different from the manuels installation...The manuel advises to cut 1/2 inch off of header pipe....I found no need to do this.....however I did need to cut 3/4 of an inch from the very end of the pipe(the angled tube) in order to fit the pipe in and through the slots cut in fuse body....

Reason Quqiue recommended cutting the header wasn't for installation purposes but for increase in RPM. For installation as you mentioned correctly the exit should be cut!

I found this Pcs in my right Stab. To me looks as It goes by the servo tray.
and the servo was to go towards the Square cutout in stab. But left stab doesn't have one. Looking at the
stabs with a flash light I don't see this piece at all. I hope it's nothing to be concerned about, or I hope not.
I have no problem putting it back in if I have to. If I don't so be it.
Would you send this picture to QQ to look at.
Thanks Rich,

I believe this part is an Stab Tube Stop for my right stab.
I may as planes in trailer, even the 40% Cardens we don't remove the stabs
go ahead and glue the stab tube in.

Why is this thread still a "sticky"? The place is out of business and nobody has posted here for several months. I couldn't understand why it was a "sticky" in the first place. Just another ARF assembly thread. I can't see the priority it has over the other threads in this forum and the need to be on the top of the list.
