I'm using a header pipe and canister muffler on my EF Yak.....My question is: Where do I tap for smoke???....Do I tap the header or the canister???....If tapping the canister will the exhaust cool down to the point that I won't have good smoke??? (The header is rather long)

Thanks for your replies!!!

most cannisters already have a smoke inlet in them. It could be possible for the cannister to be cooler and thus not heat all the smoke fluid but going directely into the header presents the problem of pushing the fluid into the jugs.....thus pressure locking the motor .

I'd go with the cannisters

I have tapped my header pipes about 1" below the engine exhaust port on a slight downward angle. I silver solder or braze a hex nut with the same size thread as the smoke nipple onto the header pipe to give extra material for the smoke nipple to thread into. I have never had an issue with smoke fluid entering the cylinders, good thing is you get a really good burn and tons of smoke, bad things is that it is not an instant off as some smoke still remains in the canisters until it is all cleared.
