Hello all, I need advise on which engine to go for based on the track I run on. The track is technical and requires bottom end to clear jumps. I have a hyper 8.5, and was wondering which RB would be a good engine for this buggy. Thanks for the help.

I cant comment on the S3 as I have never ran one. However I have 2 S5s and they are great engines. They dont lack any bottem end power, its not ballistic power but its smooth and controllable. They do lack topend compared to more upmarket mills. But either one should be a quality and reliable engine .

Chookman46 - I got couple of questions..

1. How is the run time?
2. What venturi insert comes with the engine?
3. Other than RB plugs, does the OS plugs work?

1. I run mine with the 063 pipe and x1 cr and cant regularly get 10-11 mins from a tank. It can make it through through a 10 min heat without refuelling.

2. Mine are both the older version not the LG2. But I'm pretty sure the new ones are the same and dont come with any restrictors. They are just 8mm carbs, but the will still take any standard rb/novarossi restricor.

3. Ive only ever really ran rb 6 plugs and never had a problem. The OS plugs are actually shorter than most other brands so if you use them you will loose some compression due to the shorter length.

i have both, awesome either way. the s5 is very impressive for the cost, the top end it lacks from other more expensive motors is 1/2 a car length at most, not much at all. the l2g comes with better bearings, lower head and improved carb. mine likes the jp-4. i had to change the old front bearing on the s3 after about 1 gallon,, no big. the s3 is a hair less powerful all around than the s5, but great for a buggy. it likes the jp-3 or jp-1 with nova header. the best part of the S3 is it can become a monster motor after its been "professionally" modded. for about $100 tnt mods can turn the s3 into a v-spec killer, and it will probably outlast one too. either way you'll be happy but if you can only have one i'd get the S5.

Hello,

I am looking at purchasing the same engine....

Do you think the JP-4 pipe is better than the RB 2045 pipe that come part of the package deal they have on A-Main? Also, I've heard the s7 has better top end but not as much bottom end punch. Would you recommend the s5 over the s7? The track I run at is not very big... not small, but not a huge track. Would better bottom end be better for me in this situation? I also will be running the engine on a smaller indoor track as well.

Thanks!

OVerall the s7 is a better engine than the s5. Theres not a real drastic difference between them, but your are right the s7 does have more top end and with the right clutch setup(lighter shoes/heavier springs) will have good bottom end punch. EIther engine would suit but the s5 is cheaper and the money you save can go towards the rb pipe.

i've heard that the rb 2045 pipe works best with a jp header. i've seen S7 run here locally and they don't lack bottom end, most people mistake lack of bottom end with smooth power band. just because your wheels don't spin out every time you hit the throttle doesn't mean it lacks bottom end. plenty of low to mid punch to clear any triple with minimal run-up. the S7 is good enough it will be my next motor, if the S3 or S5 give up any time soon, and i drive only truggy for now.

I dont mind going with the S3 or the S5. The only problem I am facing is getting the right glow plugs. In most of LHS over here everyone seems to stock up with the OS plugs.

I know the JPX.21, Go Tech 5 port, GRP.21 is compatible witH the OS P3 plugs. Just wish RB was.
