Status: offline 		so a week a two ago my brother came down from dc to visit for a bit, and he wanted to drive my volcano, finally i let him and he was doing great. But....he was driving and pins it right, and he is speedin along and starts to curve toward the curb, and sure enough nails the curb at about a 20 degree angle and breaks my sterring hub and carrier, and cracks my fuel tank. not as much damage as i though. So i ordered some more parts and i figured i would do some maintenance while it was apart. my cluck shoes are like turning brown, is that bad? should i replace them? and i wanted the part number to the clutch spring, the one that has a higher tension so it grabs at a higher rpm. i think its a traxxas spring. it was weird too, when i would spin my tranny, it would get hard to turn at one spot so i took it apart and replaced my brakes, and it went away, weird.

Status: offline 		no there wasnt really much to see, but ill try to get some pictures up, i put some of my friends foams on it so it looks funny, and we'll see how the acceleration is. and a quick question, can i use the clutch shoes that came with the spring, and if not why. and on the stock shoes does the spring go towards the front or the back?

Status: offline 		Supposedly no, you can't use the shoes that come with the spring. I don't know why, but I suspect that the shoes fit a smaller diameter bell (that's what I thought I saw when I bought the package myself, anyway). I think someone is using them in a newer Himoto, but that's another story. They should still work in a larger bell, however, but the takeup point would be super high, and they'd probably slip even up to the engine's torque peak.

The spring goes to the flywheel, but I can't see why it would matter. What does matter is where you put the pivot on the clutch: read this link: http://www.nitrorc.com/articles/clutch.html Leading shoe and trailing shoe are the important things to look for. I could explain the difference better with a force-body diagram, but basically in a leading shoe design you've got the angle between the flywheel pin and clutch->bell engagement point causes the engagement to actively force the shoe into the bell, lowering the RPM for clutch takeup and increasing the aggressiveness of the clutch. The trailing shoe design relies entirely on centripetal force flinging the shoes into the bell, and the RPM for takeup is higher and the clutch will slip more at low RPMs.

Status: offline 		ok so i put the 4146x spring on along with new stock clutch shoes and that thing flies now. its suck an improvement in acceleration and speed. i would def recommend it.
