Trying to get an idea of what eveyone uses on the New Version 'Pinched Nose/Cheek' SkyRaider Mach II; a 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" Prop Spinner or a 'Prop Nut'; my thought was to use a 2 1/2" Spinner that would match or meet/cover the taper of the new pinched cheek design, enhancing aerodynamics and decrese drag? Tell me what you use and why?

Much Appreciated, EH!

The Official Starter has just started the countdown clock...you hit the spinner with your starter and it comes loose...or the prop nut inside the spinner has come loose. You're pretty much hosed for that heat...EH?

And how easy it to change props while you're comparing them or after dinging one if you use a spinner?

That's why the seasoned racers will invariably use a Spinner Nut.

The streamlining advantages gained from a spinner are negated in your first 10 foot long turn.

Jim;

Thanks for the reply, that's kinda of what I've been thinking, the New Pinched Nose Version adds a new twist, just curious what others say; I guess Jason doesn't use a spinner, right? I wonder what Fred uses, he was unbeatable at the Challenge in Waco, I plan to try the prop he uses, just curious about the Spinner vs Prop Nut!

Doug, I have the spinner on my plane but is a LA Racer, not a SRM2 like yours or Freddy's. BUT Fast Eddie, and some others run just a prop nut on them as well, and out run me. I'm interested in seeing if the "Freddy Prop" will do anything for the LA R, he explained it to me and it seems simple. I just have to see if I can remember everything he told me .

Skully;

You don't recall if Fred uses a Spinner or Prop Nut do you; I plan on using the Fred Prop as well, undecided about the Spinner vs Nut thing?

The spinner isn't going to make an appreciable difference in aerodynamic terms. As far as highest speeds, you'll have to find that special prop combo that works for your motor. I tried a Fred prop on mine and it ran fine in the cool morning air, but once it heated up, the motor ran like crap. I was WAY down on speed and the motor was heating up like crazy. I dropped back down to my normal prop and immediately was fast enough to take the lead in my next 2 heats and not look back. I know Fred had a brand new engine for the Waco race which can make a big difference. New motors are a lot tighter and generate better numbers than an old worn out motor.

Like Jim said, 10' long and ya lose your advantage!

Freddy told me at Waco I HAD to use a spinner with it. As for why,, you'll have to ask him.

As for Tim, yes he did switch off of the Freddy prop, and pick up speed and win!! We later talked about it and, at that time, couldn't come up with an answer. We just liked adding the 4 piont bumps to the pile.
