Gday
Well this is my first post, so hello to every body...
Now I have a few questions. I have bought a onfa .32 big block to be a trasplant for a .21 japan engine that came with my HSP Tornado monster truck (which is the same as a Himoto rancho).
Now is this engine a good engine or did I just waste my cash on it??
Is the engine stable or does it require a lot of mantaince?
Can I run my flywheel and clutch parts or should I buy the onfa stuff and will it fit??
Now I have noticed that there are a few bell housings that onfa have with differant amount of teeth.
Do they all have the same pitch on them?

OK that's it for my questions, now I have another question for a freind of mine.
He has the same truck as mine and he is looking the replace his engine with a AXIAL AX042 GREY GRAY HEAD SPEC 1s .32 NITRO ENGINE.
Now he wants to know how good the engine is or is it a throw away jobby, or can the parts be found easy enough to fix it?
He has found one for $168 AU dollars, do you fellas know of a better place to buy the engine if it is worth it??
Or should he go with a differant brand??

OK thanks for any input you guys can give us....

the ofna 32 you bought is probably a force 32 and they are ok.your clutch parts and flywheel should fit fine, you might want to up the teeth count slightly on the clutch bell as the force 32 doesnt rev that high.your mate who is after the axial 32 might want to look at the price of the lrp28 or piccop3 28 as they have more power but the axial 32 is an ok engine anyway.hope this helps

Also just to let you know we are both in Australia and we don't race our trucks, just burn around the paddock trying to out do each other...
Also how close are the hp ratings on the engines, because the picco has 3.3 claimed hp, LRP 32802 VTEC Z.28R Z28R .28 SPEC 3 (Power Output: 3.81 horsepower!!! depending on fuel type, manifold and tubing).
And the onfa .32 that I bought has a hp rating of 3+hp?

Any Ideas?

the Ofna 32 actually dynoes at around 1.1 HP, its one of the lowest powered upgrade motors you could purchase.... it tunes easy but its not really considered a performance engine.........the Picco 28 dynoes 2.01 HP and the LRP dynoes 1.8 hp.... both the LRP and the Picco will be extremely fast as compared to that 32....... like comparing a Corvette to a Caravan I am sorry to say....

Man now I am spewin that I spent my hard earned dollars on a donkey engine..
But that god for these forums to help me learn from the stuff ups hay.
OK now if your figures are correct what would a 3 port .21 engine pump out in the way of HP??( considering that it is a factory standard engine..)
And to think that I thought that it went pretty good..( speed wise0

Also can you buy dynos for our nitro cars???( if so where and what is a good brand)..

Thanks
Kikka

the stock engine is likely around .7-.8 HP..........the new 32 is not a bad first upgrade to be honest with you...they run well and tune easy..... the other engines may be more powerful but they are harder to tune and setup.... IMHO your motor choice is well suited to your first upgrade so dont feel to badly...

OK thanks for that.
But my mate and myself are long term competing people... One has to be better then the other..
I run a 253cbi (cbi= cubic inch)motor in my street car and he runs a 350 cbi in his ute(pick up).
That is what keeps us sharp(if you dont use it you lose it)..
now can my engine be ported to reap some more hp out of the engine or has he got me beaten all ready????

Also where do you get ur figures from??
Have you got a dyno or are u just in the know???

I would be using figures from XRC testing using a X-Dyno....... One thing to consider is drive train..that OFNA 32 is liley close to limit your drive train will likely handle ... If you installed a big HP motor like the Picco or LRP you may start to have major issues keeping your rig rolling..... With RC its very important to stay running, nothing sucks more then sitting on the sidelines with broken gear..... Too much HP will end your day very quickly... Clutches will melt, spurs will strip, diffs will break, shafts will snap etc. etc.....

Int he end that 32 is going to be a massive improvement over the stock engine, it will tune easy and should be very reliable and hopefully your machine will hold together with the increased power..chances are your stock clutch will not hold and would need immediate replacement...

Thanks for that. i think that I will stick to the engine that i bough and let my mate work it out for himself..(if he breaks his car then I am the winner ) OK will go with what we know for now and let the rest sort it out..

Thanks to all you guys that have put so much info into my question..
