Greeting all. Ken and I have recently returned from the Futaba XFC Tournament in Muncie. It was a great weekend and for those of you who missed it we will have a full spread in RCU Magazine soon (But we've got tons of video to edit first).

In the meantime, here are some stats and some great still pictures we took. We'll be saving the best pics for the magazine article, and of course the videos, but here are some nice shots to whet your appetite.

I shot Heli pics while Ken video taped them, and Ken shot airplane pics while I shot videos of them. So Kien will be dropping in shortly to post airplane pics.

But here are the final results:

Airplane:

1) Andrew Jesky
2) Jason Noll
3) Kelly Gerber
4) Chris Meyer
5) Yuri Higuchi
6) Tim Fulk
7) Jason Danhakl
8) Terry Hahn
9) Nick Maxwell
10) Manuel Santos

Helicopter:

1) Dominik Hagele
2) Bobby Watts
3) Nick Maxwell
4) Colin Bell
5) Scott Gray
6) Alan Szabo
7) Jamie Robertson
8) Daniel Jetschin
9) Jaehong Lee
10) Jason Krause

Team:

Bobby Watts and Bert Kammerer

To keep it simple, I'll just list the pilot's names in alphabetical order with some of his pictures.

This is Alan Szabo with his TRex 700 (Which is coming soon to a hobby shop near you)

Mike and I really had a great time covering this event. It was full of some fantastic flying and some really great people. Everybody involved with the event were very friendly and never missed a chance to stop and talk to spectators that came to watch the event. In fact, as I walked around I think that pilots had as much fun talking to the people at the event as they had flying. And that's saying a lot as there was some great flying.

Before I get into posting the plane pictures I want to post some of the "Sights" of the event. Going into the event everybody was a bit worried about the weather because of all the rain that has been hitting the midwest this year. Friday was right along those lines. The skies were overcast all day long and rain stopped the flying several times, although they did manage to get all the flying completed.

These pictures are from Friday, 6-13-2008. As you can see, the crowds were a little light this day, but that probably had a lot to do with the weather and it being a Friday.

As this was Futaba's event it was no surprise to see them well represented at the event.

The coordination on the flight line was incredible and it was obvious that a lot of effort went in to planning the event.

The last 3 pictures shows the hardest rain of the day. It had everybody in the tents for the better part of an hour as we waited it out.

Saturday, 6-14-2008.

The price paid with the rain on Friday must have paid for good weather, because Saturday and Sunday were absolutely perfect flying weather. The crowds were a lot heavier on Saturday with the great weather.

Even though he's not president of the AMA any longer, that doesn't mean that Dave Brown has stopped being involved. He was on site all three days and was activily involved with the event.

Of course there were the crashes too. Here we see a plane belonging to Frank Noll that went down during the Team Flying where he flew with his son Jason. Talking to Frank afterwards he told me that this plane has been on borrowed time for a long time now. They did some experimenting with adhesives on the tail section of the plane and it had well over 500 flights on it. It went down after one half of the horizontal stabilizer pulled off in flight.

Even us working stiffs had to take time to eat. Here Minnflyer is back from a burger run to the concession stands.

And just to prove to Marc that we actually worked while we were there!!

And finally the Helicopter trophy.

Ken
