Not got it yet. It'll take a while to get here no doubt. The Scalpel and batteries are coming from the US, the 6 cell chassis from Austria. I have 3 Mongoose's here so I'll see if I can make one fit, if not then I have a few sensorless brushless systems as well. I have a feeling the path of less resistence will be a small 20mm can brushless motor.

Just so you know, 20mm can motors have a smaller mounting diameter than the motor mount on the Scalpel. My Park 370 came with a 24mm mounting adapter so it bolted right in, but you may have to make an adapter if you don't have one. Or you can order the brushless motor mount for the Salpel which has a smaller mounting diameter for 20mm motors. Most places that stock Scalpel parts carry it. It is kinda pricy though, about $20-$25.

How much does your Scalpel weigh ready to race?

I think that I'm going to get one. There are about 8 guys that race off-raod with me that have 1/18th scale cars that they race in the basement of one of the guys house. I've been wanting to race on-road for awhile and I think this is my chance. I've figured out everything I need just need to find out what micro ESC is best. I want a very nice clean set-up. Keep this forum going cause 1/18th scale is starting to take off.

My Scalpel and Apogee packs arrived today Still waiting for the 6 cell chassis.

The stock motor seems quite close in size to the Mongoose so I am hopeful I might be able to get that in there.

Nice. The stock motor is pretty large in diameter, but it is short. Hopefully it will work. Maybe Tower's length spec includes the shaft or something (I'm pretty sure it does with the Mamba motors).

totally losi, that ESC should fit fine. My receiver is just a bit bigger than that speed control (1.4" x 1" vs 1.12" x .95" . You can look at my receiver in the pics to get a size reference. There isn't really a pic that shows it very well, but my ESC is quite a bit easier to mount than my ESC and that Novak ESC you mentioned is even a bit smaller than my receiver.

Got my 6 cell chassis and Parma body today and it took me about 1.5hrs to build up the rolling chassis. I've held the Mongoose up against the motor area and as you said I would have to take away about 3mm of the opposite side to the motor mount. Luckily I don't need the brushless mount with the Mongoose, it has holes that will fit.

It's going to be a real tight squeeze in there to get everything to fit but I think it's doable. If it doesn't work then it'll end up with a Tekin Mini Rage ESC and probably a 5400kv small can motor (for which I will need the BL motor mount).

I'll get a few pics up in a day or 2 to show what it looks like.

My little Scalpel project is coming along nicely. Fashioned a nice underbody foam bumper. Got the 6 cell chassis in and made room for the Mongoose. Just need to mount the electrics now and paint the Parma Speed 8 shell. Watch this space

Nice! That 6 cell chassis is nice. Let me know how the car is with the Mongoose.

Mongoose 10.5 is in (no pinion yet), it's tighter than a tight thing in there
Apogee 1000mah 7.4v
Spektrum micro
MRT custom cloned PTX
Hitec HS-82MG

Will probably have to add 20gr of weight to balance the chassis or get a smaller battery pack.

That's awesome. You're really filling up that chassis. About the pinion, in case you weren't aware, I believe they are regular 48p gears (not .5 mod). I tried a .5 mod pinion I had and it was really noisy (and didn't seem very smooth), while my standard 48p pinions were smooth as butter.

I'm curious to see your Parma body too. Sorry I never answered about the weight of my Scalpel, I don't really have an accurate way to weigh it. I've been so busy with my job and family stuff that I haven't even taken mine out for a couple weeks (none of my R/C's actually).

I really like that Mongoose system and was thinking about getting one for my RC18B. How does it perform? I know you haven't run it in your Scalpel yet, but have you tried it in anything else?

The Mongoose is THE BEST micro brushless system out there. I have 3 of them and have raced them in my Vendetta ST\LRP Shark a few times now. It's a great system and I wouldn't really consider running anything else now.

Thanks, I had to Google pinions earlier today to see what it takes. I have all the Novak .5 and .6 pinions here but they didn't mesh well. Tried a 48dp from my Associated B4 and it worked so have ordered a load of pinions today. Will only get a chance to run the Scalpel this Saturday and can't wait!

I'll post up a pic of the body as soon as it's painted. I am doing a quick spraycan job on it and will send a second one off to someone with real skill. I'm cheating a bit and have not cut out the rear wheel arch as it's not marked and I couldn't be bothered and as I will be racing in an open on road class there are no rules
