Just put this engine in my new 1/5 scale top flite p-51 and am really new to gas engines. What is the gas/oil mix ratio for the engine? I just want to make sure I put the right amount of oil in. Thanks in advance.

32:1 good quality oil.
Homelite, craftsman,Pennzoil any will do.
A little bottle/gallon and go fly.
Too many sleepless nights around this forum about 1 or 2 % oil

Agreed on the oil comments above.

Off topic, however, I'd LOVE to know how the Mustang flies on that engine. Building one right now, and considering a US41 in the nose.

Haven't flown it yet, and actually am trying to sell it in the classifieds.

I Flew that set up for a while.....US41-Q42, close, but not a clone.......A dependable plodder, on 32-1 will run long after you tire of it...I used a Menz 19.5X10 and it flew the plane at 21#. It fits good inside the cowl.....However...........if you are looking for something that will rip like a Mustang, I would suggest more muscle on the firewall.. Many good 45-50cc engines on the market in that price range, with more punch........

I had similar experience with the 41 in my giant Aeromaster. It's a rock solid reliable workhorse.

The statement that it fits in the cowl is precisely why I'm considering it. This will be a scale effort, and I REALLY want to avoid bits hanging out. *heh*. I've got a DL-50 laying around as well (in fact, it's in the aeromaster NOW, as the 41 has been pulled in preparation for all of this). I'd love to use it in the Mustang, but just can't make it fit in-cowl with a "scale" exhaust. The same is true of all of the other 45-50cc engines...at least those for which scale exhaust systems are made.

You will have the top of the carb exposed on one side.......When propped correctly, the 41 will give you scale flight, if the weight is in the 21# area.. The 41 is a little heavy, but the plane is designed for a straight bolt in of the 41, and a Bennett muffler makes a clean fit.........Keep your weight within reason and give the old workhorse a try..

I agree. I run my -41 at 40:1 with Klotz Techniplate synthetic. Works great.

Well us guys who live at higher altitudes have to put more power in the nose or the thing just won't perform. There's a guy at our club who's got this model with the US 41 and it's scary in the summer. Takes the whole paved runway and struggles to get over the 8 foot high bushes that are about 80 feet from the end of the runway....

Now as for something bigger that will fit inside the cowl and have scale appearance/function, this is the PLACE!

He's got exhaust for most of the popular gas engines in the TopFlight P-51. My brother is putting a ZDZ in his and the exhaust is really well built. Be aware that inverted Pitts type mufflers will cause you grief with a DA or ZDZ as they hit the bottom of the engine box. Keleo has a much cleaner solution and not a whole lot more money. I THINK the DL can use a DA50 exhaust?????

Keleo is, indeed, one of the places I'm looking. And yes, the DA muffler will fit the DL.

Of course, the DL won't fit in cowl, so that's a moot point.

Same is true of a majority of the engines he makes exhausts for...hence my hope to use the 41.
