This airplane is set up with a MVVS .77 with a stock muffler and a Zinger 14-5. It does everything I want it to.
I need help with the things I can't do.
When attempting a Harrier I'm slow, at a high angle of attack, the wing starts a rockin' and it snaps out.
Please tell me the secret. Do you reflex the ailerons? Do you cut the wingtips off? Do you push the CG farther aft. (I'm at aft CG on plans which is 6" aft of leading edge) Do you set it on the ground and jump on it ten times and find another one?
Please tell me.
Thanks,
Pat

How much elev throw do you have? You need to have enough to get the wing quickly past the point where its stalling (rocking) and then use the power to hold the tail down.
Reflex on the ailerons sometimes helps but its also gonna push the nose down. Not up like you want.

Would a longer servo arm help or is it really binding hard after 30 degrees?
What kind of hinges? CA?

I cut away the hinge seal, the source of the binding. I added the largest servo horn the fuse will accommodate. The clevis is in the second spot up from control surface.
I've always been afraid to attach it to the closest position for fear of flutter.
I have 40 degrees of movement and no tricks up my sleeve for any more.
After the winds slows to about 25 mph I can give it a try.
Thanks,
Pat

It sounds like you're at that magical point where the wing just won't give up flying. Much of lift comes from the top of the wing, and that has to "go away" for a good harrier. That's why some planes with a load factor that's a bit high can do a harrier. The wing needs to act more like a boat hull on water. Maybe the extra 10 degrees you found will do it, but you may creep the CG back a bit at a time also. Also, try it inverted. The height of the Su-Do can cause the CG (in the vertical) to be a bit above the centerline. This can cause a "not so good" harrier upright, but a good one inverted.

OK Guys,
Finally got a break in weather.
I finally got a harrier but the transition from flying on the wing to hovering on the prop is really sensitive. Do you think moving the CG further aft will do anything? How much aft do you guys go at a time.
Like I said, there is a lot of throttling to go into a harrier. I tried to do it like the 35 and 40 percenters do ( pop the nose up and add throttle) It does'nt work that way for me.
The wing still does a lot of rocking just before it starts to Harrier.
Any ideas?
