Hey All, anyone know causes my clutch to engage while at idle?
The truck idles at a very low rpm and the clutch was not engaging originally while at idle.
While my truck was idling yesterday, I picked it up to turn it around and had the wheels start spinning on me.
I hit the gas figuring the clutch might have hung up, but the wheels still spun when it returned to idle.
I put it down and on a flat surface it will actually try and move a bit at idle.
The engine is the 30cc in the FS trucks if that helps at all.

Is it possible the spring on the clutch broke or came off? I would imagine I would hear something rattling around if that had happened though.

Any ideas?

Broken spring
Damaged shoes
Idle too high

Anyone of those 3 can cause the problems you are having

I agree with VP. The stock clutch spring on the FS didn’t seem all the strong to me, so I think you either have a broken spring of it as lost some of it resilience (not pulling you clutch shoes back together all the way). I am sure it is an easy fix, good luck.

Thanks guys, I figured I would have to tear it down, any recommendations for replacement clutches/springs for the FS motors?
Do you know if Zenoah clutch parts fit, or if clutches are pretty much standard fare?

There are two versions of clutch shoes, the CY which uses a 10mm bolt hole and the Zenoah which uses an 8mm bolt hole. The FS engine uses an 8mm bolt hole like the Zenoah, so that is the clutch you will have to get. As for springs the standard spring engages at 6000rpm and HPI makes an 8000rpm spring. However, unless you use HPI lighten clutch shoes the spring will engage sooner then the 8000rpm (not sure of the exact rpm engagement). I would say to just install the complete HPI high response clutch but it uses the 10mm bolt hole and I am not sure if the CY clutch plate will install on the FS engine. I have an FS engine sitting at home and I also have a spare CY clutch plate so I could get you the answer later tonight when I get home if you would like.

yo the clutch backing plate uses the same size holes regardless of what size hole is in the clutch shoe weather it be the 8mm or the 10mm . the clutch backing thread is the same . its the clutch bolt spacing thats diffrent [ the part of the clutch bolt that go`s through the shoe ] 8mm having a narrower out side dia of the shoulder part of the bolt compard to the 10mm hole ]

have you checked to make sure the stock bell is true? if its out of round from excesive heat, it may slightly graze the clutch at idle. and remember, the hotter it gets the worse it will be. so you may not see much when its cold. ive never really heard of a busted clutch spring on a 2 stroker.

three things can cause this , but two most likely reasons that can cause this is broken clutch mount bolt , clutch spring came out or broken , third reason but rare out of shape bell

Correct, but you never know with the FS brand. I did check the FS motor and they are indeed the same threads so if you wanted to use the HPI high response clutch all you would need to do is get the 10mm bolts and you are good to go, if the clutch or clutch spring is your problem.
