Status: offline 		Hi there. I have a couple of questions for the experts out there about brushed motors. I have a brushless motor that I use for practicing but I want to get into racing and the only choice I have near me is 23T stock motor racing.

I'd bought a Tamiya TZ for another car a while ago and I was reasonably pleased with it. I'm now looking at getting something a little more "exotic" in terms of maker.

I've been looking around at HPI, Team Kyosho and Team Atlas motors only to find that there's about 100 different choices for stock 23T. (ok, a little bit less than that... )

So I'd like to know if anyone could tell me the difference between 3mm core and 4mm core... What would be the advantages of one over the other..

Also, I'm assuming that the number of holes in the can would attribute to a cooling factor? So if you were to use a higher gearing (harder) then you would probably want a motor with more holes to expell the excess heat? Have I got that right?

I'm ok with the difference between Torque and Rev type motors... and Stand-up and lay-down brushes... but the core size, I'm not so sure of.

Status: offline 		Instead of 23t, you might want to consider getting a reasonable 27t. I got an Epic Outlaw 27t as my first motor upgrade, and it easily gave me a 5mph boost over a stock 20t (one that wasn't just a silver can). And if you want more power and your ESC can handle it, a 19t will greatly improve your speed and acceleration. But like I said, a decent 27t will probably outrun any 23t.

Status: offline 		An Epic 27T Tagged Armature is the way I would go..
If stuck with no choice but 23T then I Would go with a Tamiya RZ...

The RZ is designed for a Course with a long Straight... the TZ, for Short Courses..

So depending on your gearing and your Chassis and the type of Course I would Stick with Tamiya as the Super stocks are good value

Status: offline 		Agree with magnat there the tamiya 23t series are probally the best 23 turn motors out there
For 27turns the CO27 is hard to beat and for 19 turns the checkpiont money is a great choice.
Ive ran both the TZ and RZ motor and they have great rpm and torque for 23 turns

Status: offline 		Guys, thanks for the replies. I appreciate your opinions... I do actually have one of both the RZ and TZ motors.

However, does anyone know the answer to my question,
What is the difference between the 3mm core and the 4mm core?

Status: offline 		well the wire amature is wrapped around the core so a larger core i suspect should be more torque

Status: offline 		I was wondering does anyone know about atlas motors or motors from hobbycity kta? I have a small sail plane I want to stick a powerpod on and was thinking a brushlless lipo setup. It weighs aproax 1 pound. All I know about motors is 100 watt motor for one pound. Can any one help?
