Hi all:
Crashed my AXE CP a couple of weeks ago and bent the tail boom and broke a blade grip. I replaced the boom by de-soldering the tail rotor motor since it goes through the boom. I re-assembled the heli and soldered the connections back on. Now, when i turn on the radio, my tail-rotor does not respond to the left/right pitch change at all. I ran up the throttle and the rotor does spin. When I try to move the rotor pitch to the left, the tail rotor rotation stops but no pitch change occurs. When I turn it to the right, the tail rotor begins spinning again, but there is no pitch change. With the throttle down, the pitch does not change at all regardless of whether I move to the left or the right.

Any help to solve thisproblem will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Fella,

I am (absolutely) a beginner - I haven't even flown yet, but I suspect the lack of response to your post may be due to some confusion. Do you have a box-standard AXE CP or do you actually have a variable pitch tail rotor?

Me - I would disconnect the main motor (Standard AXE) - ensure all "Trims" are neutral and see what happens when you throttle up moving the tail left and right.

Hope this illicits some response from our more proficient flyers - good luck.

Dave

A stock Axe CP tail rotor is fixed pitch.

As said above, it's normal. There is no pitch change mechanism on the tail rotor.

The tail rotor moves the tail by adding just enough thrust of the fixed pitch prop to either hold the tail in place against the torque of the main rotor or adding more thrust to over come it altogether. To go the other way the tail rotor stops and lets the torque from the main rotor twist the copter the other way.

Hi All:
Thanks so much for the Response, particularly MajorTomski's. I had a mental block - I knew that the tail-rotor was fixed pitch, but I guess I was so nervous while bench-testing the heli after the repair that I reverted to thinking about my Raptor 30's procedure for checking.

MajorTomskis succicnt but clear explanation jolted me back to recognizing that I was dealing with the AXE CP.

Did my first post-crash test flight just a while back - other than a few shakes at low throttle (need to square up the paddles) it flies great and I am back in business.

Thanks again to all who responded.
