Who would win in a Ultimate-to-the-death Cage Fight?

Ok, just kidding.

The question is, what is the difference between the 2212/34 Hollow and the 2212/34 Standard shaft? For that matter, what is the difference between any AXI hollow vs standard?

1) Can the hollow shaft motors be used for standard aerobatic outdoor flight with standard electric propellers, or do they have to be used with the EVP props...and for indoor 4d only?

2) Can a hollow shaft be changed back to a standard solid shaft in the future?

The reason I ask, is that Hobby Lobby has the AXI hollows on sale for 50% off. Is there a catch? Parts availability? Easily bent shaft? etc etc.

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob.

I dont have Axi but I have the E-flite motor with hollow shaft and you can fly it with the VPP or with out and use a regular prop. I dont know if you can change the hollow shaft to a standard solid shaft since the hollow shaft diameter is bigger and is you use a bigger motor shaft it may be to long and Im not going to tell you that you can cut it to size, thats up to you. The only difference between hollow and solid is that the hollow can be use with the VPP setup.

The catch maybe that it will be harder to get parts since the website said is DISCONTINUED.

Hi HBV: Thanks for the great reply. On the AXI 2212/34 and 2212/34 EVP, AXI-Model Motors lists both shaft diameters as 3.17mm.

Hobby Lobby has these on sale right now for approx 50% off.

I am posting the response from AXI/ModelMotors in case anyone else is interested in this topic.

And perhaps someone could translate a little for me. On one hand, Jan indicates that "all parameters" are the same. Then, Jan says that you cannot replace the hollow with the solid without risk of "unbalancing of rotary and damage of motor". This seems to be contradictory info, but I am sure I misunderstand.

the difference EVP and standard motor is just hollowid/solid shaft all parameters ar the same. You can use 2212/34EVP also with regular prop also for sandard aerobacy. The only problem is you must be able to attach prop to the hollowed shaft some how and the hollowed shaft will have lower resistance aainst crash and breaking.

No hollowed shaft can not be just replaced because you risk unbalancing of rotary and damage of motor. But in case you replace entire rotary than you can make from EVP motor regular AXI 2212/34.
