Maybe you should take a look at how the Zenoah 26cc heli engine is cooled?

Hi "Oldy", i thought of it too, an additional upper cover to help directing the airflow over the cyliners.
i ran a few gas engine without cowl, never had heating issues with them... no doubt that directing a larger amount of air throgh the fins is better (baffels and jackets) but these relatively small engine doesnt generate as much heat as the big ones and have larger colling area and fins (just for reminder, its a 26cc engine).

thank you for your warning, i am femiliar with the efficiency problems that this kind of design have, my dseging will not fly on the engine power alone, it will have a wing for straight forward flight ad will be using the engine power for takeoffs and landings (hope they will be equal numbers :-) ).

Steve, zenoah 26cc heli uses a larger cylinder head with better cooling, further more it has a shroud that direct air from a fan mounted on the main shaft to the cylinder head and forces air through the coling fins.
because i am using a prop fan, i need as much "open air" for the prop wash with no obstacles to interfere thr air flow, adding a shroud for the cylinder head will cause performance degredation.
thank you.
