Any thoughts on the number of ounce-inches of torque that are needed to hold the tail on the HBK2? I would imagine much of it has to do with the type of flying- hard 3D vs. casual upright cruising around ? Does digital make any difference in the King with the rate gyro, and what about servo speed with the rate gyro. Can you tell a difference flying in windy weather with a faster and/or digital tail servo? Too many questions, but if you have some suggestions on good tail servos for the 400 size heli, please shout out. I realize gyro quality will have alot to do with this.
Thanks,
Don

Not sure but I don't think you can run a digital servo on a rate only gyro.

yes you can run digital servos with rate gyros. but you won't receive the full benefit of digital servos unless its digital capable gyro. you may try the hs 50 or hs55 for tail servo. the futuba 3154 is also good. but you need to spend some money on a quality gyro. I just don;t know why people go for the cheaper gyros when they can get a decent gyro for 100-140 bucks. gyros usually dont break on a crash. so you'll be able to use it alot longer than the heli itself. plus it have many benefits that will help you learn with flying. believe me get a decent gyro and you wont regret it.

I run a Futaba 3114 on my tail as its fast, super strong, no play in the gears and relatively fast and cheap (15$ at LHS)
I had a HS-50 but gave it up as its really park flyer materal and is only about half the torque (8 oz or so) of the stock esky servo although it is very very fast. It is designed for 1/2 A planes. Tried a HS 55 next but it was pricy and no better as far as performance that I could see then the 3114.
Digta servos work best with digital gyros no way around that one. Waste of money less you have the gyro to work with it as a analog servo does not talk digital! Some gyros can work with both digital and analog but they are high end and if your spending 100$+ on a gyro for a 140$ helo, you may as well dump the whole cart and buy a 30-70$ digital servo along with it and upgrade to a dx7 tx and a matching rx along with the brushless motor, ESC and bigger batteries and carbon blades and cnc head and Hs-65 cyclic servos.. Didn't you buy the king ll cause it was small simple to fly and uh cheap cheap cheap...

I'm running the stock servo with the Logitech 2100 om my King II and it holds just fine. I'm not doing any hard core 3D with it ( the whole helicopter probably explode if I did). Invest in a good gyro you can always use it on something else down the road. Mike

just a coupla comments...

the advertised torque is based on spec operating voltage, so it's possible that your tail servo may not be pushing as hard as you think (esp true on nitro helis)...
i've gotten spoiled by the crisp response and holding power of the fut 9254 and jr 8900, which i use on my larger helis...even the hs-50 is fast (but fragile)...the fut 3114 on my hbk2 is fast enough for me, but one of these days i might try this one...

I've got that hitec servo (actually i have the logictech 3100g but same thing). They are very nice and are super fast and hold the tail well. I still believe the 3400g is probably the best tail servo out there for 450 size though.

Ken,
Which heli do you rate as superior when comparing the Gaui 200 and the Walkera 4 # 3 ? I know one is collective pitch and the other fixed pitch, but I'm only talking about indoor non-3D flying.

Druss,
What servos and gyro are you using on your HBK2 ? I just got my Futaba 3114 servos and I'll be doing a change out soon.

I used to have the telebee w/ esky servo on the tail and it worked ok but I just moved up to a 2100t and 3154 and it holds much better.
