I just saw those pictures yesterday. that looks like the alien from the movies. so freaking cool. my brother is gonna do that canopy for me.

Looks like i have all the parts today. . I will start the build tonight after work. I should be finished by tommorrow night. i keep you guys posted.

I defintely film the mars once the build is complete. cant wait for the test hover. I have one question though, in the manual they used rubber grumets to mount the servos. do i need to have the gromets to install the servos or is it ok not to use them? I dont have the rubber gromets so im gonna screw the servos right into the mounts.

Ok....so I cleaned, scuffed, cleaned some more, taped, cut, cleaned again and painted 3 coats of metallic blue...let it dry and when I went to remove the tape...the paint came with it! ROFL...I used the wrong type of paint for it...so...it is all white again! lol
I checked the second color I have and it should be fine...so I am going to go with a one color canopy and possibly hand paint designs on it later...LOL I could not believe that I did that...

Noob, I put my servos direct to the mounts...the servos I had did not come with rubber spacers, so I just went with it...seems fine...but I do not have it tuned completely yet either...

how's your mars480 edwin? I should complete the build tonght and tommorrow i will test flight. Mounting the boom was a real PAIN. other than that it has been easy with the instructions and the labeled parts bag.

awesome noob! lookin good! i can't wait till u get it up and flying.. i'm curious for feedbacks from an intermediate pilot like you.. see how the mars flies from your perspective so i know what to expect on mine

i got the exi 450zl .. my wife screamed at me when she saw the heli "Oh no, not another heli!" she said with an angry voice..lol.. there's just no way i can take pictures coz my wife took it and stored it at her work office so i can't be tempted to buy parts for it and try to get it up flying.. lol

my mars 480 is still at the LHS.. 75$ for the basic setup but i'm asking them if i can pay extra so they get it done faster.. it's been a week now and they told me that it would take another 5 days before it's done .. i bought 400$ worth of parts to go with my mars a little over a week ago from them, isnt that enough for them not to take me for granted them knowing that i'm really into this hobby and i would be spending hundreds more if not a grand worth of hobby stuff from them they ought not to treat me as just another guy wanted a water rocket for the holiday ..lol .. i'm disappointed

Hey noob.. would you ask your brother how much he would charge me to have my canopy painted like a monster as well.. Thanks

thanks helitubbies for your vote of confidence. . 400 bucks worth of mars parts? wow. i could buy another one and spare parts with that cash. lol

i ran into a snag installing my tail servo. seems like my s9650 wont fit. . spent almost 2 hours trying. i screwed up the mount bracket so i will have to order another set. good thing dave is apopka so i should get that part a day or two. too bad cause its the last thing to install and its done. .

i may have to get a different tail servo for it. i did notice dave use the hs65mg for tail servo so i might stick with that or something similar. it needs to be digital so my gyro will be more effective. i noticed also that the tail blade pitch is more than any heli i have own. i think its a big advantage since my piro rate is going to increase signifcantly.

i will ask my brother about the canopy

edwin what tail servo did you use that fit correctly? i could mount the 9650 on the tail boom but i would rather place underneath the main gear for better cg. but that would mean i would modify the tail servo push rod. i want to fly it the way it was meant to.

hmmm.. that got me thinking according to the manual, bigger servos like the 9650/9257 can be installed by putting the mounts at the outside of the frame...if thats not the case, does that mean that my LHS is modifiying my mars to get the 9257 mounted... hmmm . scary .. i'm looking at the manual right now.. aside from mounting the servo mounts at the outside of the frame, the mounts needs a little bit of sanding too so it can work for 9650/9257 servos

Hey Gang...
Noob the build is looking good!
Yes the tail boom install was a drag! And I have scratches on the end to prove it
The weather here has been ugly in the afternoons....our monsoon season has come late this year, so winds kick up late in the day with possible rains...no flying most of this week...just sim time

I have been trying to locate the cause of my tail drift and I found that the belt may need to be tighter than what I have on the TRex...seems it may be jumping the gear a little. So I have tightened it up and hovered in the rec room....it seems to have helped but I have not had the opportunity to test it outside yet. After the disappointment with the painting I have not worked on the canopy again yet...probably this afternoon after I get home from work and getting parts for the RV...

I am still waiting on the LHS to get the gear set for the 9257 so I can rebuild it and get it installed. I may have to just go ahead and order it from Heli Direct at this point because it has been a week...I can get a new motor and the HS 65MG's while I am at it...I am thinking I am going to try out the Align 430X 4050KV motor...it will run with the 35amp ESC I have and should give me good head speed and run time....I don't think I want to spend the money to get the Gazaur motor and ESC right now because the wife received some bad news this week and she needs another surrgery...so I have to moderate my spending due to the fact she will be out of work on non-paid leave for 3 of the 4 weeks she will be recovering.

Noob, I am just running a Tower Pro 9g on it, cheap, slow and non-digital. I am not sure what is up with the gyro mount, but when I eye balled it...it looks like if you sand down or cut off the the small portion of the gyro holder tab to eliminate the single hole mount, that it should just mount direct to the 2 hole mount area....like HeliTubbies said that is per the instructions...hmmmm. If it does not fit I won't be happy. If you want to go with something other than the 9650...you could use the Futaba S3153 Digital Micro HT HS Servo($35). It is faster than the HS65 with comparable torque...should work fine on the tail.

HeliTubbies, I hope they take care of you soon...I am one who hates to wait...especially on other people...one reason I took the time to learn how to do it myself

sorry to hear about your wife edwin. i hope she will have a speedy recovery. cant speed your money on heli while the wife is sick.

i'll try the 3153 and see how it goes.

helitubbies the 9650 could barely fit in there as is. its very very snug. i'm going to have to try a digital servo the size of the 65mg's .

ok my build is complete. . just need to fine tune and test. i did a spin up and it was awesome. should be completely air worthy in 2 days.

thats alot of parts there helitubbies. you should get the carbon tail boom upgrade. it has the new orange tail belt which looks awesome and the carbon tail boom looks fantastic. also the carbon tail boom is over 10mm longer than the stock which will let you put even bigger blades for more stability when you get want to hover.

i should have a video of the mars480 real soon.

ladies and gentlemen.....my mars 480 is airborne!

i havent even adjusted anything yet. as suspected the HS65HB is not keeping up with the gy401. it will hold but with doses of wag every now and then.

my lipos is charging i will take her up again.

on a side note.....the align 430xl with 35x esc is not handling the 340mm main blades very well. i noticed a little bog here and there. i still see good head speed however. i have the 320mm blades i will try with the next pack.

good day

it is done. everything is working perfectly. after installing a new futuba 3154 digital servo on the mars. it starting nice then it went crazy just like the hs65hb. the servo was really hot to the touch. i dont think that servo can handle the gyro and the 6v my bec/esc is giving. so i decided to install the 9650 on the boom using the trex tail servo push rod. worked perfect.

i also had alot of tail vibration due to the belt being too tight. i backed it off and now it seems the power is coming life.

cant wait to take it to the park to see how it really flys. enjoy the pics.

i also used some metal tubing i had and installed to the rear of frame for extra rigidity.

are those travel adjustments? when i had mine first set up it would bind down on the bottom. i could hear the buzz coming from the servos. i had to recenter everything and start from scratch. as this bird is different with everything else i wasn't sure if i had mine dialed in correctly.

How's your mars?

Doing good....still have the tail drift...but I am with you on that it is the servo I am using....it is very minor actually but it is a little hard to do any acrobatics with it.
But that will be solved soon!
You should recheck your servo arm set ups...make sure they are as close to center as possible...then use your subtrims to level them...then if they still bind then use the swash mix...

i took care of the binding. man this floating head technology is awesome. it was so stable today. I went outside on front yard and did so piros.....so holy smokes! its super fast piros. i'll film it tommorrow and you can see yourself. i tried all three different blade size today and found that the 325 were best all around. the 340 was super stable but my motor would bog a little. the 320 blades come out ballistic! but it was touchy.

Awesome Noob...I have been pre-occupied lately with other things, so I have not flown very much...taking a little time off from helis has been good.
I intend to order some new servos, gear set for the 9257, a new motor and some carbon fiber 325 blades for the Mars tonight...then I can really give it a good test.

finally, after almost 2 weeks waiting.. Tomorrow is the day i get my mars480 back from the LHS called them 4 times and they would'nt even tell me how close my mars from getting done. i had this bright idea , i sent my sumo wrestler buddy to check it out and find out himself personally... off my buddy went to the LHS with my heli receipt in his hands.. "I'm here to pick up the gazaur heli " my buddy spoke with a big, loud and deep voice (almost like Tay Zonday singing chocolate rain ).. LHS heli guy replied "we are working on it sir , and it will be ready tomorrow " lol... never got that kind of answer when i was talking to them on the phone... i'm excited
