it hovers like a hummingbird! headspeed is insane.. super fast response.. <- this is what i heard from th LHS heli guy that worked on my mars480.. i'm excited to get it out at the backyard to try some hovering ..

9257 tail servo mounted perfectly like the manual says.. the lingo motor is awesome (yet it might be too much for me ) lipo mounted where the esc normally goes.. it look so beautiful!!!

enjoy it, man. I have a lot of time on my Poseidon and it's a wonderful heli. It's completely different from the other similar helis I have, but I like it.

the belt keeps moving away from the center to the side of the tail gear... something is eating up the rubber too hmmm.. any ideas?
could it be the belt was turnt wrong? or maybe the belt is too tight?

If it's tearing up the rubber, though, there may be something wrong- check the alignment of everything, and make sure the belt is only turned one quarter turn (and isn't rubbing against itself). The belt doesn't need to be incredibly tight, btw. It should have a little give in it, enough that the mechanics turn easily.

i finally fixed the belt problem... the belt was turnt wrong..... that made the tail blade turn the other way. the LHS guy compensated by reversing my stick rudder control.. all i had to do is turn the belt the other way and put the rudder stick control to normal. the tail blade should be spinning clockwise according to the manual... my belt is running the way its suppose to be, perfectly ligned up with the belt guide ... no more tearing thanks guys!

good catch helitubbies. my belt was turn the wrong way too. i didnt know i the tail rotor spin clockwise. no wonder my belt would come to the side all the time. i just fixed it. all you had to do was reverse the rudder? did you reverse the gyro too?

i messed up the tail adjustments when i tried to fix the belt.. the tail is drifting and wants to do the piro.. i followed finless bob tail setup but my tail is going crazy still.. gyro Head Hold needs to be set right, rate mode is very unacceptable.. the gy401 led kept blinking, it might be the lipo getting weak too.. in short, i don't know what i'm doing this is not the thread for newbies either

I have 5 packs of lipo ready to go and my mars480 is stuck with the musical chairs.. spinning uncontrollably

noob i didn't reverse the gyro.. let me know if i need to do that...

HT, put the gyro switch in AVCS mode, and power up the heli- if the led doesn't come up, blink for a bit, and then go solid red, then your first problem is there. If the remote gain lead is plugged into the right channel, then you probably don't have the right settings for the gyro.

If it does, then looking from behind the heli, move the tail to the right. The trailing edge of the blades should move out to the right. If they go the other way, the gyro needs reversing.

Then move the rudder input to the right, and the trailing edge of the blades should again move to the right.

Thanks dude!!! osterizer you are right.. i need to put the gyro on normal ( it was on reverse).. i moved the tail to the right and the blade moved trying to help it go to the right more... lol.. now it seems like the gyro is moving to the correct direction now... i just need to try it again and hover it outside and see, i might need to adjust tail linkages a little bit..

another newbie question...... why is it my rx blinking? it does that once in a while ... hmmm

noob... you probably figured out by now.. fixing the belt needed the rudder stick control adjusted to go the other way.. same thing with the gyro, it needs the switch flipped the other way (the directional switch on the gyro)

Glad it helped, HT. I don't know about the receiver; I don't have Spektrum gear. The manual should tell you what the indication means, though.

yep. gotta reverse both the rudder and gyro.

HT: not sure what that blinking on the receiver means.... i have the ar6000 and it never blinks ..just stays solid.

i do reccomend you getting an external bec just to be safe. i bought the CC bec and my esc, motor, bec is cold to the touch after 5 minutes in idle up. no lie! my motor is barely warm.... best investment i made... it also provides redundancy on your servos in case your esc gets fried.you still have servo control thanks to the bec...

i go home and video my setup and post it on youtube so you know how mine is setup.

still havent taken it to the park.. its been raining in the afternoon for the past 2 weeks.
today dont look any better either. i havent done any flying for a week now. it sucks cause i was about to do some other manuevers i been practicing.

oh yeah.... the piro rate is just incredible on the mars. i have never spun so many times so quickly before. this is truly an exceptional helicopter.

for my next project i will get the Poseidon with the black carbon frame and lingo 8 motor. i want the all metal head and tail.

my mars480 is hovering great.. of course anybody watching me hover would not know the difference coz i'm still learning and i could'nt hover it steady resulting from throttling up and down constantly the headspeed is insane, i might go down for 11t pinion.. the lingo 8 is superb.. it barely gets hot.. my 40amp esc gets a little hot but not too much, i would still keep an eye on it and see if i need a switching bec.. a few hard landings after throttle downs to keep from crashing, i have put a training gear and it's a big help.. other than that, i'm a happy camper!

noob do you still need some photos of the 9257 tail servo mounted? let me know bro, i'll take some more detailed photos if you still need it....

my tail blade is kinda chewed up now.. lol .. i might need to stock up a few... lol

I'm actually pretty surprised at you guys- I would never have advised someone to learn on a Gazaur. They're excellent for aero, but they need some twiddling to get right and they're pretty responsive to be learning with. Learn something new every day I guess .

Noob- what's this black carbon version of which you speak? I don't feel a need for carbon frames, but metal grips and a metal tail would definitely be a good thing.

noob..i would love to see the video of your mars setup.. headhold mode on the gyro is 70%.. 50% on the rate mode, what's yours?.. i might be able to acquire some of your settings..

i totally agree with you noob.. next heli would be the poseidon! i'll probably just get the cf kit with the regular rotor head so i can replace parts cheaply

osterizer has lots of hours on the poseidon.. bro.. u mind sharing your experience with us? share us some pics pls...

i dreamt about helicopters last night

Sure, HT. I got mine in December last year. Worked like a champ for the most part since then, but I thought it needed more fiddling than it should have to set the head up right. Post 1294 here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=657414&page=26#post8812770) was my initial response to it after putting it together, some more at 1301, 1315 search for Poseidon in that thread and there are several posts on it in the conversation. 1328 has some pretty happy flying impressions, and 1803 shows the painted canopy, carbon stretch and Rotor Tech 350s. I was flying it that way up until just recently.

I've generally enjoyed it a lot, but I smashed the boom and the nice canopy just recently when the feathering shaft just let go, broke in the middle in flight and slung the blades across the field. I'm slowly getting it back up to speed since that because it's a time-in-flight (fatigue) thing- I want to make sure everything else is ok before stressing it too much again. Right now I'm flying it on MAH 315 tapered blades with the standard length boom. Give it a few more flights and I'll put either the 340s or some SAB 320s on it and see how it feels in aerobatics again. I'll probably go back to the stretched boom again once I'm satisfied it's ok.

osterizer.. great posts about the poseidon. i love the paint job on the canopy.. i'm still working with the hovering.. my blackhawk heli has gazaur rotor head and it hovers a little better than my mars, i don't know why.. i took the training gear off my blackhawk coz i don't need it anymore.. the mars480 has the training gear now and it will be attached to it for a little bit longer time than my blackhawk had it... i do agree on one of your post that it does better when ur not hovering.. this heli just wants to take off and do some forward flight, i felt it when i accidentally nose down trying to compensate from a bad hover and i was able to turn and back it out precisely while its doing the forward thing.. weird.. lol.. but still, my goal is to hover it decently by doing lots of practice...

GTG.. the packs are charged up again!

very hard landings! a thud on the concrete pavement cracked the frame.. 5 ft from the air + loosing control + full throttle down in 2 seconds+= very bad combinations... i also cracked the wooden blade from the tip all the way to the middle due to blade scrape (thats with training gear on)

Somebody pls show me how to use a JB weld

pretty soon i would be taking off rotor head parts from my Blackhawk for the mars..

Whew, sorry to hear that, HT. The frame's been pretty sturdy so far, but anything has its limits I guess . You should be able to fix it pretty well, either with some fiberglass cloth or (distant second choice) some plywood scrap clamped and epoxied on (or JB Weld ).

It must have been a good one to smack the blade that hard. When I've had a mishap (ahem) I've always toasted the grips by breaking the anchor points where the mixer arms screw on, though. If the head survived without breaking anything, you did well. This last thing with the feathering shaft used up my last set of spare grips! Half the time the mixers fly off into heli parts limbo, too.

[edit] BTW, you probably already know, but just in case, hobby-lobby.com has a 20% off 4th sale going, plus half price on the Gazaur parts. [/edit]

i jb weld the frame, i think it would hold

wow thats a good deal.. 50% off.. but i do have plenty of spare parts right now.. i would order some more but i aint got the dough... lol .. my wife is keeping the heli money away from me... i'm thinking about getting some cf blades from DX, they are as cheap as woodies due to cosmetic blemishes

Helien will be flying again tomorrow morning!
