It was made by US Engines who is, to the best of my knowledge, no longer in business. Certainly, the engine is not made any more.

USQ Aero claims to be building the line, but they don't seem to actually offer any for sale on their website. You can however find a manual for the engine on their site at http://www.usqaero.com/page6.html

As for the engine itself...they are ROCK SOLID workhorses. You almost can't kill the things. They're heavier than many of today's purpose-built engines, but that's not a bad thing in many applications. Larger bipes, warbirds, etc, tend to like some weight in the nose.

They're also very stout critters. My own hauls around a 21+ lb Giant Aeromaster (kit built back in the day when strong > light) with real authority. No, it certainly won't draw unlimited uplines or anything...it has to be flown in a scale fashion...but it certainly has no trouble flying that way. Just yesterday, in fact, I flew that airplane for the first time since last May...and after priming, the old US 41 startd right up on the 3rd flip...after sitting idle for over a year.

Put one in a lighter 12-14 lb airplane, and you'll have 3d power to spare.

As for props, they seem to be happy in the 20" diameter range. I've swung a 20x and 20x8 on mine with no trouble, and it currently swings a 20x10 on the aeromaster...it would probably like a 20x8 a bit better, but it sings the x10 fine, and i like the airplane's performance on it.

Bottom line...you've got a VERY reliable and stout engine there. Find a decent sized airplane (think 80" warbird, 72" bipe, somewhere around there) and it'll provide years of reliable scale performance and never let you down.

I don't know if parts will interchange, but it's basically the same as a Quadra 42. gboulton is right, these things are basically truck engines for airplanes. The magneto ignition can make it a tad difficult to start, unless you use an electric starter or have the spring starter for it. It just takes some fast flipping to hand start it, but once running, it'll keep going as long as there's gas. I've had mine for three years, fly a 98" wing Bud Nosen trainer, weighs 22 pounds, and I use a 20-8 prop.

Mine might be trickier to start than most, I don't have a choke.

I'll second gboulton's comments....18-10 prop is recommended, but mine seem to like the 20-8 better, also used the Menz 19.5X10
I believe B&B ( Bennett) still handles the parts for the 41, many of the Q-42 parts will also fit...

I must agree with some of the comments above...with the magneto ignition, it can be difficult to flip fast enough to start. A spring starter is, imo, the way to go.

Again, it DOES add some weight...but, as mentioned above, not as big an issue if the airplane is chosen correctly.
