Hi, i recently converted a mini quad to RC for a small project. There will probably be improvments to come, but its simple and works so im not to worried. I have seen a few people suggest doing it on the forum so i thought i would post it up on here. I used 2 tonegawa ps 050 servos which have plently of torque, some radio gear i had spare, a fail safe from my hpi mt2, the batteys for the servos are 7.2v 1800mah and a lot of zip ties. Its great fun to drive and pretty fast with no one on it, one of my mates has sat on it as i drove it which was a laugh. It was fairly simple to convert, so if any one is thinking of doing it i would say go for it. Heres some pictures (sorrys there not great i took them on my phone) i will try get a video soon.

Sone things i will probably be adding is a roll cage and some protection for the servos.

Phil

Nice looks great.
Are you going to be mounting your throttle and steering servo solid to the chassis or to the motor? Heres an example for the throttle.

Lookin forward to some video, must be a blast to bash around. Have you takin a ride on it?
Great job.

Hi, it only has a rear cable disk brake so the cable is just attached to the servo horn on the opposite side to the throttle. Some of the later mini quads have front brakes on both wheels as well as the back but just the rear does the job fine. It is pretty fast and it does roll easy at the moment but im planing on getting some weight added to the bottom and a roll cage, I have rolled it a few times and it holds up fine the bodys got a few cracks though once I have the roll cage i might get a new body for it. Its 49cc and i will try get a video today.

I don't see how the servo is attached to the throttle. It looks like it's hooked up to a brake caliper, unless the choke lever is blocking something.

Whats one of these pocket quads go for? I'd like to build a trophy truck out of one. And where do I look for that steering servo?

would that be bigger than quarter scale ? can you make better pics of how the steering is set up . are the steering turnbuckles just attatched and floating to that upsidedown servo , and did you make your own steering turnbuckles adapters.

Sorry about the video taking so long i have been busy and the weathers been crap so hopefully i will get one soon.

You can get the servos from ebay for a good price or you can buy new for about £115 ($225) from http://www.tokyo-hobbies.com/tonegawa.html

I got this quad for £67 used off ebay you can get them new for about £150 ish in the UK im not sure what they go for in the US

I will try see if i can get a better pic of the steering set up. I used the part from the standard steering colum which connects to the control rods i got some one to weld some extra materal on so it could be screwed to the servo horn.

hope that helps Phil
