this is a forum for people thinking about or trying to make anything from a simple roll cage to a top fuel dragster and everything in between.

i am considering building a drag racer/ tractor puller out of a pile of varius aluminum pieces, 3 tamiya gear boxes, and some scrap parts i have laying around. so far i can only think of one problem, i have no diff. in back.

can't you just put in a spool. In a straight line that gives you more traction

Differentials are mostly used for cornering handling. It allows the wheels to turn at different speeds to keep a car going at the same speed throughout.
When you put in a differential for drag racing, it decreases your speed and handling... A slight turn or bump on one side will throw the car off.
A spool allows the wheels to turn at the same speed at all times, so that decreases cornering, but will be more effective in a straight line.

Doonagoowin is correct. Essentially, what you want is a straight axle. This is called a 'spool' in the parlance of cars. Continuous and evenly distributed power to both rear wheels, and easier to build than a diff. This is common in most drag cars.

Also, have you checked out the Drag Racing forum?

In that case I could post pics all day......but I'll save that for my build thread ( Project Hard-CORR )

Instead let me show my custom fuel tank in progress. Running twin nitros so I need two tanks. What a cousident...I just happen to have 2 savage tanks. Bought the tank with primer to replace stock, then tore up savage to build this thang. I want the tanks to set low in chassis but want the filler up high. Plus I want a real look. Cut the tops off the tanks. They will be bolted to a flange clamped to a hose running to a sullivan airplane tank.

Couple pics and a photoshopped plan

Good luck on your deal

Doesn't a spool put more strees on the drivetrain?

well, for the time being i am putting the dragster on hold because i am making a monster truck out of a stripped evader ext. its starting to turn into a 1/16 area monster truck. i pretty much just made a new chassis out of eather aluminum or brass, and 1/10 scale monster truck tires and rims. i will post some pics when i can. other wise its a stock evader ext with a new chassis and new tires.
