Dramatic RC Raceway
I have decided to make available to RC Racing fans my latest track. I live in South Africa. Cape town to be exact. For those who don’t know its located on the southern most tip of Africa.
And yes we have a lot of RC racers.
This new facility is the first in its kind to be started in the Western Cape. The track is designed to be IFMAR legal and in the future we will be hosting nationals and internationals.
The track is facilitate the growth of new blood in the sport so we may also compete internationally.
Here are some before and after pics.
Please feel free to give me your thoughts and suggestions. Remember guys “Keep it clean”

Make it a family fun center, With Arcade, driving range and miniature golf. If you pave a parking lot make sure you use blacktop so you can have a smooth serface for road races too. If you have the extra space you can also put in a pond for RC power and Sailboat racing. Do not forget about the onsight RC race store. We racers need our parts. You may even benifit from having a consession stand to sell simple preprepared food and drinks. One club built in ground power plugs for convienece and reduced the number of extension plugs pulled from the club house. You do this to an active community you will have a track that is self supporting and people that enjoy comming around that are not into the sport. You can then attract them as well. More foot traffic never hurts the sport. Start young and bring them in. I am putting together the business plan for a sight were I live, but the hard part is finding people to run the day to day operations, so I can get out and race myself. I would hate to get into a hobby and have to quite so I can help others enjoy the sport of RC racing.

That was the before. This is now. I have started my own club and has had very strong response on members joining. Check out the track.
There is a lot of ugly pics of the work done inbetween and we will be having our first race meeting next weekend. So keep thumbs for good weather and a successful day

RE: Dramatic RC Raceway
Are there any jumps or bumps? It is a much bigger track than I normally race on. We use large PVC pipes to help build the bumps. I like the big sweeping turns. Can you say high speed track. With a .21 a high bell gear and a 7 port engine. I think on that 70 or 80 meter back stretch you could see buggies reaching high speeds. I am not good on high speed tracks, I guess when you get old, vision and specifically depth perception goes so I always end up hitting a wall at WOT. The wrecks are never pretty. At least on technical tracks. As long as I keep the buggy moving with little need for a marshal I seem to do pretty well. You put your time in and put together a nice track. Good job. thanks for promoting the sport down on the cape.

Very nice looking track. I have been tooling with the idea of starting my own track and hobby store, also, although space where I live can be very expensive. Like Relay, I'm trying to piece together a business plan to see if I can even afford it.

This is exiting times for us.

Some pics of first racemeeting.
I was too busy organising and racing to take some action pics. I will definitely post some later.

I am digging this track, I don't get why everyone assumes just case they are 1/8 buggies/truggies that the tracks need to contain 10' jumps, it's about time someone did this, great job.

flat tracks Suck....ask any racer...and that track would be Boring after the first couple tanks....we need a challenge and something interesting to make guys want to travel 1/2 across the country to come race...and unfortunatly...that track wont cut it.....Jersey...dont take this personally as its not intented to be.....but technical section....whoops....table top's....thats the stuff u need to keep the racer's interested.....flat wide turns like that = Boring imo. OR an i jumpin on the band wagon too soon ? and you guys are planning on doing this stuff ? just didnt have time ?

For sure technical is nice Integra but at teh same time when you wanting to draw new blood into teh hobby/sport we dont want them breaking there cars all the time during the learning curve.
On the other hand a lot of our local tracks are not like the US Motox type tracks.
So having a different type of track on a national calendar really gives the guys something new to look for.
Over the last 4 years all our national tracks have moved away from big jumps and more to smaller sets of jumps and technical layouts.
Jersey is far from finished though and they are in process of adding and fine tuning the layout.
I look forward t running a National there.
Jersey you need to get some CPT boys up to Avion as teh AGM is going to be there.
Wouldnt want CPT left out of the national calendar for another year.

I have to agree with Integra on this one. To much like driving it around in your backyard. You guys are on you way though. You have a car club and a location with huge potential. These vehicles were designed to do just what the full scale vehicles that they were birthed from do. Go fast and catch big air.

RE: Dramatic RC Raceway
Guys thanks for your comments.
I agree with both Integra and Razzor. The reason for flat track is to draw the new blood to the sport. I find after the first tank for me the track becomes boring, no challenge. The track will evolve with time and watch this thread as I will be showing pics of the changes I will be making. IFMAR rules specificies no less than 4 jumps for a 1/8th scale offroad track.
For now I am focussing on the facilities.
Later JB
