I am thinking of buying a new heli, but I dont know what kind yet. I currently have a t-rex 450 se v2,but I am wanting to learn 3d. I can fly the t-rex pretty good, but only scale flying. I have heard from many people that a 50 say the t-rex 600n would be a great trainer, and more forgiving. Also though I was looking into a blade 400 due to cost of parts. Another alternaive I have thought about is the t-rex 500. I was wondering what would be more stable, and less likely for me to crash. A major thing about picking a heli is the I live in Florida so we often have storms and wind problems making my flying time limited with the electrics.

Bigger helis are more stable, but initial price and repair costs go up. The 450V2 was designed for hard core 3d right out of the box- why would you want to get a Blade 400? That's going in the opposite direction. You've already got one of the best 400 size helis on the market. If you want to go bigger, that's fine. There are lots of choices out there in both nitro and electric. I personally went with a 600nitro Pro. It's a great heli. I'm still learning so my 450SA still gets a lot of flight time. And if you don't have a sim, get one. I use the sim to learn orientations then transfer them to the 450 and when I'm comfortable I try them out on the 600. But you don't have to upgrade to learn 3d. That's my 2 cents. Alan

I agee if you have a 450 the Blade 400 is the wrong direction. Cost wise the T-500 would be a great choice. Very powerfull heli, good in the wind, fly's big, and not to bad in repairs plus parts are everywhere. As for the 600, thats a great heli, powerfull, and very stable as well. Not cheap, but as stated, if you do your homework on the sim and your 450, no reason you cant jump to that. I also live in Florida and fly my 500 almost every day. Its a much better bird in the wind than the 450.

Dont go for a Blade 400, it would not suit what you want to do... The Trex 500 on the other hand is great... very stable, feels like a big heli and will do almost everything the 450 will do.

Well sounds like im leaning towards a 500. It will be a couple of months before I get another heli due to me having to work on my truck, but that gives me some time to research, and find out what I need and want.

I have seen what a 450 can do in capable hands, mind bogling, it is an extememly good 3-D machine. Spend your money and time in a good sim, then take it to the 450. The cost of repairs on the 450 will be much less than the 500 or the 600, if you are serious about 3-D the accidents will happen. Stick with the 450 it will get you where you want to go.

If you're looking for a cheaper 3D trainer that's stable then the Hurricane EP550 is a nice choice. I have the Trex 450SE, Trex 500 and Trex 600N Pro but probably fly my hurricane more. The kit with motor and esc is only $320. Ya it's plastic and the stock motor and esc aren't great for 3D but it's a good cheap trainer. Reason being that I'm not afraid to crash it, the airframe w/ wood blades only costs $250...

Druss, and you did not mention that the 550 is big, so perspective for all the hovers, and ff, are much eaiser to see whats its doing. Fly's in the wing a whole lot better meaning more stick time. All for no more money than a 450. Plus you can add all the bling you want, more power, etc. That perspective thing is big especially when its not just directly in front of you ten foot high. Those 450's get small doing big stall turns, circles etc. when you are up 75'. Good parts availibility also.

Another note on the Hurricane 550 cost. In the one crash I've had with mine (so far ) the repair cost was no more than the repair cost for my last Black Hawk 450SE crash.

Thats the one thing I discoverd about the 500 sized heli's. They fly big, more stable, perspective is good, fly in wind, can fly in small areas, but the over all cost to build, and fly is not much more than a 450. I am addicted to heli's and want to have a variety to fly, but I know I will be spending most of my stick time on a 500.
