I have a novarossi p5x that needs new p/s, and was wondering whitch one to get. I hear the 5 port has great low end and good top end, but can be hard on fuel, and the 7 port is easier on fuel, and has less power though, can anyone confirm or deny this?
The 7 port is on sale at Amain for 204.99, p/s/r assembled.

I always thought the more ports an engine has the better top end due to having more RPM. Thus, uses more fuel

5 port shouldnt rev as high as a 7, but have more low end torque. Cant see how a 5 port would use more then a 7 port.

I race Saturday on a tight and twisty track, my 7 port rarely gets to topend.

There is no hard and fast rules regarding number of ports and topend/bottom end performance. Port timing has a greater effect than the number of ports.

I read that racers are going to the 7 port conversion, from Amain, and are getting better fuel milage. Maybe they just want to sell the more expensive 7 port p/s set.

both the Go 5 port and 7 port are 5 port engines.... the only difference between the two motors is the 7 port has a 3 port MES exhaust, but other then that they are the same exact motor......The name 7 port is strikly marketing and has absolutely no reference to how many ports the motors have...

Here's a link to all the different p/s sets, and you can clearly see the different ports in the 5 and 7 port sleeves. If you read the explanation for the 7 port complete set, the one for 204.99, you'll see what I read about it.

Not true about the 7port and 5port are the same on Nova's. I have 7 port Novarossi's that have 7 inlet ports and 3 outlet ports. While the 5 port is 5 inlets and one outlet. If your tracks have short run ups to the jump, go with a 5 port, even a 3 port if you could find it. If you have running distance to the jump, the 7 port should work fine, it just will not spool up enough torque to clear quick short jumps off turns, unless you clutch it high.

ya fewer ports in general means more torque.
