Can anyone tell me how to start and run a brushless motor w/wo esc, but no radio ?

You need an ESC.

You can use something like this to mimic the radio:

The servo tester at the top of this page will work as well:

It's the one I use on my motor test stand. You can see it in the lower left of the photo below.
