I have a partially completed Sig Kobra. I don't know if I can justify $190 for a 35 to put on it, tho.

The Tower engines have been out of stock for a year because every one of them develops hairline cracks in the crankcase. Maybe they're working on fixing that, maybe not. I suspect they'd rather get the higher prices for the OS engines, given the closeness between Tower and OS.

Sorry, that's not correct. They have been out of stock because of difficulties at the manufacturing plant. They are now being produced and are in the pipeline for delivery this Fall. The Tower .46 and .61 are due to be delivered in just about three weeks, according to the best information we have at this time.

Bill:

Is the quality going to be any better, or will it be as uneven as it has been in the past?

Thanks for the update, Bax. I wondered about the crankcase cracks comment as I've not heard this before.

You countered that assertion in a very polite and professional manner, Bax! I doubt I'd be able to produce such a thoughtful and measured response to what might be considered multiple unfounded allegations.

I have two AX .46s. One on my Somethin' Extra, one on my new SuperSportster
.40. Easy starting, easy tuning, and great power! I just don't like those goofy
mufflers! I'm thinking about getting some FX mufflers for them. BTW, I'm thinking
about the AX .35 on a Sig Kobra.

Do you plan to fly 3D with your cobra or what ??

You'd be better of with the .32 SX (still available in some places) should you target speed.

Just so no one gets the wrong idea:

1. The crankcase crack business was not my conclusion. It came from probably the most respected engine man on this forum, after I described the symptoms that four of my Tower 46s exhibited. I was a big believer in that engine until all four of them developed problems related to loss of crankcase compression. (No idle, flame out when advanced out of idle, flame out on vertical followed by a relight when returned to horizontal and idle speed. All four had very good combustion chamber compression.)

2. There has not yet been any response to the statement about the cracks.

Personally, I'd love for the Tower lineup to exhibit good quality and take off as a product, particularly given OS recent round of price hikes and some of their ridiculous prices- Almost $200 for a 35? Get real. While my 46s lasted, they ran like raped apes. Arguably the strongest 46s out there.

I'm understandably cautious about the Towers, as my last experience, a 75, had two carbs in a row that were machined wrong at the factory such that the burrs generated eventually locked up the throttle barrel. I ended up sending it back and getting an OS 91.

If you look at this link, you will see that the AX .35 would be a good choice (brilliant) for the kit: http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.exe/MainMenuFV4.html?E+Sig

I'm pleased with my AX .46s, as my previous posts regarding
them reflect. I figured the new .35 would be a great edition to
my line-up. I'm not looking for blistering speed out of the Kobra,
Just solid sporty performance. I didn't realize they wanted that
much for it. I planned to spend 200. bones on the entire model!

I hear ya, Skyraider. I love small, hand launched planes, and it looks like I'll have to settle for either a 25fx or a Magnum for the next one. They have both a 28 and a 36. I'm a bit skeptical of Magnum, having had a real bad experience with a 91 two stroke, but the the two that I have run well and you sure can't beat the pricing.

You should enjoy the Kobra. They look fast when flying. If the .35 is out of your price range, there is the Evolution .36 which has a good price.

That looks like a good alternative: the Evo is only about 1/2 oz heavier and $10 more.

I may even give the Supertigre GS .34 a look. I'm also a fan of small
models. I'm working on a 1/2 A now. I'm looking into the Magnum XLS
.15 for my Sig Wonder kit.
