Jreue,

A one way bearing removal tool is a good thing to have and I have found many uses for it other than to remove a bearing. You could also use two sockets to perform the same thing. Have one that fits over the bearing and one that is the same size as the bearing. Then you can use something like a C-clamp to push the bearing out.

Having a faster tail servo will let the gyro work better. I heard digital servos don't mix well with the stock gyro, so stick with analog. You could also go with the 65HB for the cyclic. The gears are pretty tough and don't strip easily and they are cheaper than the 65MG's.

Morning all.

So I started the repair last night on the Blade 400 from last weeks crash.

Broke the typical stuff:

Main Shaft: very tiny bend
Main blades
flybar
gear in elevator servo
main gear

Man, I am going to have to order a one-way bearing puller for that main gear. For $4, I could have saved $12 by now.

Hello Jreue,

I have 4 ea. 65MGs on two of my Blade 400s and they work fine. There are those that use a different servo for tail saying the 65 is not fast enough. I will agree there are fast tail servos. But I fly full on 3D with all of the traditional flips and rolls and such and have no problem.

I have attached some pics for you of the bearing puller for the 400. Yes Nick is dead on saying you can do this with a couple of sockets but for me........this little tool is cheap and is in my box and handy. It also has a ridge on it so as to keep the tool from slipping.

Hope that gives you some food for thought.

Yea I wish I had one of those tools. My LHS has them on their website, but not in-store.

I've tried using the socket-with-c-clamp technique, but i could not get it to work. When I turned the C-Clamp handle, the socket would turn, and eventually get out of line with the bearing. I don't have a vise anymore so it's pretty difficult with the c-clamp.

Guys,

Here are my videos from yesterday. I was having a hard time correcting the moves because of the wind, but I don't think I did too bad.

Jreue,

Who ever was flying that isn't very smart. If those blades nicked a piece of furniture the specators would have pieces of wood in them.

Sup Guys,

Well I got out at noonish to the Park and flew 6 packs in the 400 and two packs in the 500 just cruzing in both and making adjustments, trying new curves and such, without any events LOL.

Nick,
AWSOME flying but I am here to tell you, your flying that dang thing backwards. When you fly Velocity the nose goes forward the tail goes to the back! LMAO

Jreue,
What a great SUICIDE VIDEO! ! ! flying Nitro in the house. BRASS ones I will admit, but bass and no brains can lead to dismemberment!

JPEE,

That is good you got out and flew today.

I don't know how to fly forwards.

I have been trying to finish up the code for my meters today and I spent a good majority of that just troubleshooting what was wrong with it. One line of code can screw everything up. I also tried to get my only temp sensor working, but I forgot it needed a resistor and I shorted it out along with one of my controllers. It is always interesting experimenting with electronics. That is what makes it so much fun and frustrating.

Nick,

Great flying, great vids!

I checked them out on Youtube, nice when you can blow them up to full screen...

Looking great, I liked the piro flips, tic tocs, and inverted hovering!

Thanks for taking the time to video for us, and posting...I know it's a PITA to drag the camera and stuff out there with ya to the field...

I did some more research on my heli club....looks better and better the more I look on the website, I'm going to go check it out later this week...mid day, so I miss the rush hour traffic...it's 23 miles one way...

They apparently buy fuel in bulk for the club...and offer Cool Power 30% for $16 a gallon!! Only catch is, you have to buy it by the case of 4 gallons....so that's $68 for each case....still, at that price, it's well worth it in the long run...

I also found it interesting that on their Yahoo groups website, there was a post from Bobby Watts....I guess he might be a local? That would be cool to meet him at the field someday! That would be someone to learn from, for sure!

I actually got to fly a couple of packs after the Dr today!

First flights in two weeks...I was surprised I wasn't too rusty...felt good, flew the B400 and the 450 Pro around a bit...but took it easy, it gets dark so early now...it was dusk...and I have learned a lesson or two about flying in the dusk, and against a treeline backdrop..

Hope to get some more flying in, but it's looks windy for the next few days on the weather station...crap...maybe in the evenings when the wind dies down...

Glenn

Hello Nick,

Hey man sorry that lack of that resistor toasted the project. But now that you know what it was it should be an easy fix with a little work. You trying to de-bug the project is like finding out why the heli's tail won't hold......kinda. Hey, a project is a project the way I see it

Hey Glenn, with fuel that cheap, you'll be in Nitro by next summer for sure! LMAO

Glenn,

That sounds like a good place to fly. The nearest heli club for me is 50 miles away one way and it is basically a soccer field they rent.

That is an amazing price for fuel! The other Nitro heli guys in my club don't fly that much, so I probably couldn't buy fuel in bulk.

Good to hear you are flying again.

The best time to fly is when its windy.

I tested my glow starter circuit on a simulator at school and it works. However, that sim isn't a 100% accurate, so there is nothing like testing it out in real life. Right now it is kind of expensive with the through hole parts, so I am working on a smaller surface mount version.

Nick,

Yeah, I'm going to try to get by there tomorrow, I emailed them, but no response so far....the website says that you can stop by anytime...so hopefully it will be open tomorrow, even though the weather isn't supposed to be too great.

I just hope I don't get there and there is some locked gates or something....

But, at least I would know where it is, and get an idea of the actual drive.

Yeah, I don't know how they get that kinda deal on fuel...must just be a quantity thing....they are real strict about picking up your fuel...on a Saturday morning, if you don't pick it up, it's not their responsibility it says in the post.

I didn't get to fly today, went by my old job, and saw a few old mechanic buddies...before I knew it, it was 4:30, and I was a half hour from home...

If it was nice tomorrow, I could take some helis, as they offer 3 free flight sessions at that club for guests per year....so I still may get to go up there and fly before year's end...

I didn't know you were working on a glow ignitor? What kind of a project is it?

Glenn

Hey Guys,

Well I got done with my chores as Glenn says at noon today so I took a putt to the Club Field, 10 miles each way! The older guys are there on Tues and Thurs. I learned some about motors and ESC and KV and such. Once again there were three T-28's including mine, everyone loves them. The bad news...two of the fellows darted their plane just before I got there! One was a wing over from Hobbico, $400 and balsa. The fuse was totalled. We looked up what a new fuse would cost on my NEW FREAKING iPHONE I love.........hummm..... I have mentioned that here yet LOL. Anyways that rascal is $73.00 OUCH! The other guys plane was in the trunk and was a total loss. They did not go into what happened. Because these older fellows are more plankers they like to see my helis and watch me fly.

I got in two 400, three 500, one 600 and of course one T-28. The weather was just beeeeeeutiful to boot.

Nick, good news on your glow circute starter. Yea I agree there is noting like the real thing rather than the SIM.

Glenn, your got out for an afternoon putt it seems. Heck... your running around like some retired guy LOL.

Glenn,

Hopefully there isn't a gate at that field or there is enough people flying for it to be open.

I am working on a circuit that can power a power panel glow starter from a 12V battery. That way I can have a backup incase my Ni Starter is dead. I am also working on a power panel that can power an electric fuel pump and also display current, Voltage, and temp. Then I could have the features I want in a power panel and not the ones companies only offer. I am also trying to design my second circuit board. There were some mistakes in the first circuit board I designed and bought for a previous project.

Jreue,

Are you a machinist or are you making the tool out of some other material?

JPEE,

Good to hear you had nice weather to fly in.

Nick

Here we go; works like a champ!

4 washers
3 nuts
1 drill bit depth stopper
glue

My drill bit stopper happens to have the exact diameter of hole to fit over the main shaft so zero wobble at all.

I still intend to order an Align swashplate leveler, but this fits the bill now!

Nick,

Thanks for the compliment.
Not too sure about a 300 size, but to be honest, I've never heard of a 300 heli, but I'm new to all this.

I've heard this 450 works for the Blade 400 which was what I tried to mimic.

Jreue,

The CPP is a 300 sized helicopter. The 450 sized swash leveling tool won't work on the CPP, but will on a B400, Trex 450, and other 400-450 sized helis. The size refers to the size of the brushed motor that is required to fly the helicopter. Then some are sized by blade size and engine size. Each size has a standard main shaft size and a similar sized main blades.

Hello Jreue,

Great makeshift swash leveler tool. I might suggest another way for you to go other than you one your proposing to buy. With that type you have to pull the head off. As you go through this hobby there will times you might bend a link to the swash, have to change one servo and pulling off the head is a lot of extra work. Thats why I use this type. I works on my 400-500-600!!!!! helis and you dont need to pull the head. It has an adjustable magnet in the middle. You extend the magnet then push it up against the shaft and the magnet does the rest. I hope these pics will do the trick for you to see what I have exlpained. You will see as you view the pics that I started of unlevel so you could see the progress. Also, as you get seasoned you can adjust your swash very very close by eye.
Having a click of exterior radio sub trim is no biggie at all.
