Alright i swear i have the worst luck. I bought the esky 3800kv brushless from xheli and the dynam 30a esc from helidirect. Well i installed them on my honeybee king 2 with deans connectors for the battery. When i went to the park i started up the heli and went into a hover. About 30 seconds later i lost all power and the helicopter fell to the ground. When i went to inspect i found the esc to be extremely hot (in fact it burned me) and one of the leads from the esc that leads to the motor came completely off. I went home and peeled back the heat shrink on the esc and resoldered the lead on. I then tried to power everything up again and all i get is a few turns on the motor and then it stops. The motor only starts when i jam the throttle stick up to half throttle immediately. So i hovered it once for about a minute and landed it. When i felt the esc, it was hot again And i also felt the outrunner motor and was surprised to find it pretty hot too! I thought these motors don't get hot! So now im really confused cause im not sure if the motor is faulty and caused the esc to fail or if the esc is faulty and causing the motor to heat up. Please help!

Brushless motors will still get hot during use. Are you sure you did not have a short in your motor leads? I did that once and fried an ESC.

make sure when you mount the motor to the frame...the mounting screws do not go too far up inside the motor...and barely touch the motor windings..this will short out the esc as well if the motor binds up on the screw

i killed a brand new esc by not checking

Well it doesn't feel like they're binding, how do i check? If i had fried my esc, wouldn't it just not work all together?

How did you program the ESC....For outrunner it is supposed to be Hard timing and no brake. When plugging power to heli you will hear:

Bee-beep(double-beep signifying no brake), then 5 seconds later. Bee-beep, bee-beep, bee-beep, bee-beep, bee-beep(5 double-beeps signifying hard timing).

Since you are limited on manual set-up, the programming card is a good way to go to unleash more options. I however have the same 30A ESC and have never used the card. My ESC works great, only a tad warm after a 10 minute flight. MegaPower 1350 15C and Hyperion P1913 3700..

Peace,

Z

I have the program card but have no idea how to use it. I connected it to the esc and plugged in the battery as shown but absolutely nothing happens. My esc is hot after a minute. And it no longer beeps on start up. I think its ruined but it still powers up the motor from time to time.

Try programming manually for no brake and hard timing...manual that came with the ESC will tell you how to do it exactly...

Ok...Just give up then. Don't try anything new.

My fault.

**TO BE SAFE...UNPLUG THE MOTOR FROM THE ESC**

plug the end of the esc that plugs into your reciever, to the program card..should be some connectors at the top of the card.(use the one marked ESC) then connect a battery to the esc battery connector..the lights on the card should light up. there are small buttons (probably at the bottom of the card) with arrows pointing up/down , left/right. just use the up/down button to go to the funtion you want to change...the use the left/right button to move the blinking light to the correct setting you want

Im getting absolutely no lights at all when i plug in the card to the esc and the battery. i Think im just gonna get a new esc. I peeled back the gray tape, and there aren't any lights at all. I think i figured it out though. There are shorting bars on each station to choose. KiCnC do you have this program card?

call them and get permission to send it back as DOA.
Dead On Arrival have them send you a new one. Not worth your time to screw with it if it is not working right.
K has it right on the programing card as mine has lights also (little surface moutn leds), no lights then something serious is wrong with it.
I prefer to set mine manually anyway.
