I noticed that on larger planes with digital servos. people are using Li-Ion 2 cell batteries in the 2100-2400mAh range with a 6V regulator for there receiver/servos. I had a 90-120 size glow plane with digital standard servos and a 1800 mAh NiMh battery that gave me 6 flights+ - more than I usually fly on an outing (I usually bring out multiple planes). Both batteries weigh about the same but the cost of the LiIon+regulator is 3-4 times higher. If weight and capacity aren't issues for me, are there other reasons I would want to go with a LiIon with the extra expense?

Thanks,

Alan

G'day Al,
No reason at all, I use digital servos in my 160 size Katana, & I don't bother with Lipoos or regulators, I just use 2 packs & 2 switches, @ 4.8volts & 1500Mah, no problem, so on smaller planes don't bother with the expensive regs & Lipo setup.
As long as your battery capacity is high enough, like above 2000 Mah.

A model that size doesn't need Li-Ions with regulators, power boxes, regulators, redundant systems, etc.
