New planes, ARC and ARF Curare II, Atlas, Compensator, and I think the Astro-Hog. They give SPA Discounts also.

www. Pyramidhobbies.com

I am not affiliated with this organazation, just ran across them and thought I'd pass this along to anybody interested.

Thanks Pete. I'm not familiar with the Curare II. I didn't even know Prettner designed a Mk II version. What is its history?

Thanks,
David

I just took a look, interesting stuff. I wonder what the power setup in in the Curare II, as it's done as an electric.

From what I understand, you can have them build to it anyway you want, ie; four stroke two stroke or electric just tell them before they build it. Dave I don't know about the Curare MK II I did not know their was a MK II either. I'm sure those guys can answer your Question.

I noticed you can have a foam wing or built up. Made in the good ole USA!!!!!

Judging by the photos the 'II' is what they're calling a Prettner Curare that's been give the "SPA treatment"...converted to a fixed gear tail dragger with the fuse possibly stretched slightly to offset the weight of a 91 4 cycle.

Looks like I can get a set of cores and short kit for an Atlas so I'll have found my next project!

Isn't it cool that there are now a lot more kits available for classic pattern than there are for current 2M pattern? I only know of a couple of 2M kits: MHester's Black Magic series and the CAModels kits. There may be more that I don't know of, but almost all 2M planes are either ARCs or ARFs. I think this validates what I perceived two years ago when I found this forum, that, people in to classic pattern are in to building.

Wouldn't take much I would think to just toss the gear and put in retract trike gear. I assume this is an arf. Other than the gear he looks like the real thing.

Those of us who were doing this thirty years ago had no choice. If you wanted a pattern plane, you designed your own or got the kit and built it. All of my early pattern planes were designed around the Kaos wing and all were capable of much more than the pilot could deliver. Then I moved on to vacuum covered foam wings w/glass fuselages and my planes looked nicer and still flew better than the pilot.

While I do like the convenience of today's ARFs, there is something very satisfying about building and flying my own model.

Thanks to all the guys who are making kits for us!! You know none of them are getting rich doing it...It's allot more a Labor of Love than anything else...

For me..Building is 1/2 the Fun!!

Actually, these planes are made by Sid Austin and his crew at Pyramid Hobbies. You can order them with retracts if you want and you can specify the type of engine and the mounting orientation. The Curare II shown on the web site is electric powered using readily available off the shelf components. Sid flew it at the Atlanta SPA contest earlier this month.

Dug out my SPA news letter, Sid's Curare is set up with the following electric's: stock E-Flite 60 with 15/8thin blade prop,Phoenix 80 speed controller and thunder-power 6 cell 3850 MAHpower pack. says he gets 14 minutes flight. he did fly it @ hotlanta SPA contest on 7 and 8 of june. I was not in town so I did not see it fly.
I am not in to electric's so thats all I can tell you about it. He does offer ARC and ARF kits, I'm looking @ the ARC Atlas for retracts.

Those look like nice airframes......

<soapbox> But its just not right to see either the Curare or Compesator as a tail-dragger or with a 4-C up front !! Cringgge... </soapbox>
