for Racing the Inetgy and Big Bores aren't good. They are more of a basher shock. And SloppyG said it perfectly how the piggyback shocks work. In motorcross we call them reseviors. But that is off topic.

A simple change in spring and shock wt. oil can make Losi and AE shocks work great for the Rustler.

And the Duratrax ones are threaded, but not in hard aluminum so they will wear out faster.

Will the clip on spring spacers change the "stiffness" of the shocks, or does that only control ride height??

those only change ride height (unless you have progressive rate springs, which are pretty rare)

springs have linear rates, which means it takes the same force to compress them throughout the range of the spring
it's just as hard to squash the first 1/2 inch, as the last 1/2 inch

threaded losi or ae shocks with rpm pistons and the spring and oil of your choice and you will be setup with the best shocks for racing those rpm pistons help soooooooooooooooooo much there 2 stage pistons they arnt a gimmick like the intigy shocks they really work they rebound soo fast wich really helps in bumpy rutted terain with handeling and especialy with acceleration and braking

of the Losi ones?

And do you know how to build them? If not, just look in the AD2 or MF2 manual on losi.com. And sonce thye are kits it tells you how to put it together. It okk me about 40 minutes to assemble them. It could have taken shorter, but I didnt have the recessary tools.

you should look up the specs to see if the shocks are the same length as the rustlers shocks

different trucks have different height shock towers, and different mounting points on the a-arms meaning that 2 different trucks may have shocks that are quite different lengths from another truck's shocks

I'd hate to see you get some stuff and have a franken-RC with shocks that are too long and short and may be a downgrade from stock

just do your homework before you have your dad pop $50 down
