Tomorrow Im going to the LHS to get a brushless system, and Im deciding which one to get. I can afford the MM, but I dont know if I need it.

I have a Losi Desert Truck and I want more speed for when I go to the sand dunes, but Im not sure ho wfast I will go with the MM and the SW with my current setup.

I am just running a 4200NiMH with my DT so Im not sure if the MM make a big difference over the SW with a 4200 NiMH.

What would you recommend I do?

I want to eventually get a LiPo but Im not sure when that will be.

How much faster will the SW or MM make my DT?

Well Chris_RC told me that the Sidewinder has 66% power of a Mamba Max, so if you want the power, get the Mamba, If you will go Lipo, the get the 5700, that will make your 4200mah, (7 cell?) Which cell Lipo do you want to get? if you will only go 2c, get the 7700kv, that is the most power, but the lowest voltage youy can put in it, so you need to figue which works for you, if some reasom ya wanna go slow, get a Sidewinder 5700kv, if ya wanna go fast and gonna go 3c lipo, Mamba 5700, if you wanna go fast without payin the pric of expensive lipo, get the 7700, if you can control it, if ya cant, then get the 6900

the Sidewinder 5700 isn't "slow." But if you want to run 3c lipo get the Sidewinder 4600.

Its a 6 cell DTX 4200. And If I get a Lipo it will be a 2s.

I actually had this same question and I called Castle about it. They said that unless I wanted to use 3 cell Li-Po on the 5700 kv setup I would see no benifit from the Mamba Max other than the built in USB port. While the Mamba Max might be able to handle more power than the Sidewinder, the 4600 or 5700 kv motors on 2 cell Li-Po won't pull any more than the Sidewinder can handle anyway, so the MM isn't needed. There will not be any speed/power benifit from the Mamba Max on a 2 cell Li-Po or below. This is according to Castle Creations.

Because of the increased power requirements of the 6900 and 7700 kv motors, they are only available with the Mamba Max.

However, the Mamba Max does have the built in USB port for programing. The Sidewinder requires the Castle Link in order to program certain settings. You can program the main things without it, but if you have the Castle Link you can program all the same things on the Sidewinder that you can on the Mamba Max (again, according to Castle Creations).

So if you get the Sidewinder 4600 and plug in the castle link it will have the asme power as the 4600 Mamba Max that comes with the castle link?

What is the speed/power difference between the SW and MM? NONE! ESCs don't make power, motors do. The more powerful motor you choose, the more power you'll have. The only thing you need to worry about with the ESC is that it can handle the current demand of the motor you choose. If the SW can handle it, the MM will not be a faster setup.

Yes.

The Mamba Max is capable of handling higher amperages than the Sidewinder. But if the motor you are using doesn't draw any more than the Sidewinder can handle, there is no need for the Mamba Max. I called Castle Creations just to see what they had to say about it. I said I was looking at the 5700 motor and they said that if I wasn't planning on using a 3 cell Li-Po there would be no benifit from the Mamba Max. With the 4600 motor you can even use a 3 cell with the Sidewinder. It simply wouldn't have the USB built in.

With the Castle Link you can program all the same settings on the Sidewinder that you can with the Mamba Max. This much I know because I know someone with both ESCs.

Lets keep it simple
no more than 2s=SW
going 3s=MM

Right?

The SW is basicly A lower voltage handling version of the MM? Minus the castle link being included

Ahh, so the only benefit of the MM is going to come if youre using a 3s. And in that case you will ha a lot of power. But for me just using a NiMH batt and maybe a 2s later on then the SW is perfect right?

Now comes the question of what to get. 4600 or 5700? Which one will give me the most power with my NiMH?

According to this it says that the MM is more powerful if using a 6cell nimh.

I don't see where it says that. Where on there does it say that? The only thing I see on that chart is what I've already said. You can only used a 3 cell on the 5700 with a Mamba Max, and you can only use the 6900 and 7700 kv with the Mamba Max. It doesn't say anything about the 4600 or 5700 being faster with the Mamba Max on 6 cell Ni-MH. In fact the chart shows the Sidewinder and the Mamba Max together in the same boxes, with the same speed ratings for all setups on the 4600, and all setups except the 3 cell with the 5700kv. Please point out where it says anything about the MM being more powerful using a 6 cell, because it seems to confirm exactly what I (and bhcvc) said.

The Sidewinder is a lower Amperage handling speed control. The problem is that with any given motor the amperage will go up as the voltage goes up (Ohm's Law). So that if you are using the 5700kv motor you cannot use a 3 cell because the amperage load may be too much for the ESC to safely handle. You can use a 3 cell Li-Po with the Sidewinder with the 4600 kv motor because the amperage draw with that motor is less than the 5700kv. Now, ESC's do have a voltage limit, but the Sidewinder can handle 3 cell Li-Po, but only with the 4600 kv motor.
