Ive heard alot of good things about and the bad, Id say stick with a smaller motor, something around .28 as the gas youd go through with the 5.9 would kill ya, mainly the motor is just a torque house, youd be on your lid more than not.

If you are going to spend that kind of money on a k5.9 then go foe a good mill like a Picco or LRP.

I have the K5.9 in my X SS. So far it hasn't been overly impressive, but I've only put about 1 gallon through it. I think it will free up and really produce peak power after the 2 gallon mark. Larger engines typically take a bit longer to break in. Here's a vid of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkvutogJUF0
I want to try taking the carb insert (Venturi) out too see how much that improves performance.

I dont think it will run right with the insert out unless its made to run with it out but changing to a larger size if possible would be good.

It will run. The high-speed needle just needs to be richened up a bit likely because it will be sucking in more air.

it should run it'll be the next best thing we can get to a two stroke, but it will completly screw up your tune

Did you mean 4 stroke? The K5.9 is a 2 stroke. It would definitely need to be re-tuned.

nope i was just saying that the larger carb opening will alow more air in and that will be like supercharging it and that would need to be re-tuned

The 5.9 is a powerhouse. It moves the XL really well. Honestly, that video posted does NOT represent what i've seen from my XL savage. The 5.9 does not go thru fuel that fast either. I mean its not great on fuel, but its not sucking the fuel down nearly as fast as my 8.0 in the MGT. Now that motor really sucks fuel! lol. I think most people would be very happy with the 5.9. But that video does not represent what i've seen from mine. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I'm very happy with my 5.9. It is a major torque monster. But that's what you need in a big truck. Tons of Torque!!!!!

Keep in mind that my X SS does not have the 3 speed in it. It also has those larger, heavier Big Joe's with stock 17/47 gearing. I need to drop to a 16T clutch bell to get more bottom end. I did some more testing tonight with the venturi removed from the carb and the CEN pipe installed. I have about 15 tanks through my K5.9 and it's just starting to open up and hit higher RPM's. It screams with the CEN pipe! I am going to get some video of it tomorrow after I get it tuned to perfection!

I found it easy to tune, runs cool and produces decent power. I think you would be better served though with the Picco P3 or LRP engines for less money than the 5.9 is bringing right now. BB
