Hey! New to scale building. My question relates to the location of fuel tanks in scale birds. I'm currently building a Ryan Sta and having trouble placing the tank lower than the four stroke saito 100. I would think that the tank location would be a problem in most scale birds since a four staroke engine is lower than 2 strokes. How do you guys place tanks lower than a four stroke? I don't get it.

Regards,

Richard

Technically, the tank's outlets should be centered on the carb which is about the same relative height as a 2-stroke carb (it seems to me). On my EIII I ended up using a custom brass tank much higher than the carb and it didn't really cause any problems once the engine was running. During startup though there was some fuel drainage.

Saito mounts there carbs pretty close the crank so it has not be a problem for me either upright or inverted. With a radial plane its easy. Laser four strokes have the carb right behind the intake valve which can create problems with inline planes. I usually place the fuel tank center line about 3/16 of an inch below the carb spray bar.

It may not be an option for you if you already have the Saito 100 but tank location is not an issue with a YS 4 stroke. With a YS you can place it anywhere over or in front of the CG; high or low doesn't matter.
