Hey guys, Im kinda new at this R/C car stuff. I have had a Durtrax Maximum ST car with a TORQ .16 engine for a while. However, I hadn't used it in over a year becuase it required a part, and where I lived at the time it was not available (No Hobbie stores at all). I just moved to America recently and because there is hobbie stores every where I was able to get the part and fix it. However, after getting it working for a few days, I now have a new problem that im not sure how to fix. The car starts fine and the engine runs fine, however, when I press the gas the engine just rev's up but the car doesnt move hardly at all (it moves at about 5MPH when it should be going 50MPH). The more I press the Gas the more the engine rev's up but it still goes the same extremly slow speed (If it even decides to move at all). The Car only has one Gear (fowared. No reverse, just brakes). Im not sure why the car isn't moving. Does anybody have any ideas on how I might fix this problem? THanks in advance.

Welcome to RCU, I'm not a nitro dude, but look into a clutch problem if the engine is revving but the pinion and spur isn't spinning very fast. Maybe the shoes are hung up or loaded with fuel/oil.

Yeah, guver's got it. What kind of clutch do you have?
Generally, make sure it's hugging to the shaft. When the fly wheel starts spinning, the RPM goes up. That is when the clutch will engage.
The force of the RPM sends the clutch out to make contact with the clutch bell (centrifugal force)
When the clutch bell and clutch make contact, that is when the gears start spinning.
Check to see of the springs are still holding the clutch down. Also, there should be some kind of thick oil or something on it. That will keep the clutch from slipping.

Hey guys, thanks for the help so far. I really do not know anything about RC Cars (Im a real noob, lol) so I'm having a tough time trying to figure out what you guys are talking about. I have been looking at a lot of pictures of what you guys have been mentioning to figure it out. So far I just wanted to say that when I press the gas, it seems to me that the pinion and spur are both moving fast but the car still does not move (but maybe I'm just thinking it moves fast and it should be moving faster). Is that possible for the pinion and spur to both be moving correctly but yet the car still not move? And Doonagoowom, im not sure what type of clutch I have. I will see if I can find out. If you guys have any pictures that you think might help me it would be greatly appreciated. If you guys think that I should just take it to a repair place instead of trying to fix it myself then just tell me, I don't want to waste you guys time. I'll continue to look up some more info on what you guys have said. Thanks for the help so far!

Quick update: I think I was looking at some wrong pictures earlier and was confuse about what the pinion was. I'm working on the car now to see if I can figure it out. I will update you guys later when I have more information.

Well, since your new, I suggest doing it yourself with the help of someone experienced. If you're in Miami, or close to it message MiamizFinest and the other Miami guys.
I'm sure they'll help you out and you can learn a lot!

The pinion is the gear that is connected to the engine. The spur is the one that the pinion turns and that, in turn, makes the wheels spin.

Here is the shoe type clutch:
http://hpiracing.com/products/en/87028/

Here we have the two variations of the clutch bell. One is threaded for 2 speed and one is as is:
Threaded 2 Speed CB (Clutch Bell)
Normal CB

The pinion for the first one.
The second one has the built in pinion.

Here is the spur gear.

If your gears are spinning but the wheels aren't, take apart the gear box and see if that has liquid. If it uses ball bearings, see if it is locked.
When the car is off, see if you can push the car. Then spin the gears see if the wheels spin.

Don't worry, we've all been beginners at some point and I was there not long ago. Just keep posting we'll try to help best we can.

Yeah, but those are for the RS4 3 so no guarantees. Take it to your LHS and ask if it fits. Otherwise, you might need to do a few mods.
I'm not sure if those parts are interchangeable though.

check the main gear box. if it is a 2 way shaft make sure those little nut screws are tight on the flat part. if its not and just revving up take it apart, maybe u forgot a step or did it wrong? maybe u put your clutch on backwards or didnt put it on correctly. check the differentials in the rear and front of the car. or just go to the hobby shop and asked them whats wrong with it. they should analyze it for you.

Hey guys. I double checked and both the pinion and spur gears are spinning fine but the wheels are not spininng. I took the car apart and took a look at the gearbox. It seems fine to me, I can't see anything wrong with it. The gearbox uses ball bearings. Doonagoowin, what do you mean by the ball bearings being locked? And yes, when the car is off I can push the car, and when I spin the gears the wheels turn, but i can feel it slipping every once in a while. Both the gears are spinning fine so the only thing I can think of is that something is wrong with the gearbox, but I cant find anything wrong with it. Anymore ideas guys? If not, Im just going to take it to a hobbie shop or perhaps call those miami finest people seeing as Im located in Orlando.

Maybe there's a slipper clutch on the spurt gear. Otherwise is a direct link with gears? from pinion to wheels. Maybe a center diff?

I had a problem like this when I first started, It turns out I built the Differentials wrong and the differentials were spinning but the outdrive cups werent connected correctly to the differentials.

In your case, I would say your first and most obvious problem may be the clutch shoes. If those seem to be in good shape, move to the center diff (or rear diff) make sure everything looks good there.

And of course, check everything else thats already been said above. all it takes is one missing set screw or one screw not tight enough and the whole car can be thrown off.
