Well, after a lot of years i've finally got my first 4 stroke engine

Not by choice, rather it came on an airframe at a bring and buy...

Anyway, it's a Satio 40 Special, apparently with 1 hour of running, feels run in, but nice. All the valve gear seems just so.
It came with an 11x5 Robbe prop which doesn't seem to suit the plane it's on, a pete and poke, big chord slow flying plane, bit on the heavy side for the engine

What are your thoughts?

Graupner is my prop of choice for anything other than 3D, so if it's a size they do that would be a bonus, APC do some low pitch props, but i've found they tend to like 3D/hovering duty better than putting around.

Manual says:
10.5" x 6"
10.5" x 6" - 11" x 7"

The 11-5 suits the airframe. Very nice engine and plane. Enjoy.

Ice, as Jim suggests that prop is a good choice, if Graupners are your fave as they are mine then try a Graupner 12x5. It will run sewing machine smooth and idle really slow. I assume you're talking about the larger one in this pic., the little one is the latest 40a.

G'day A friend of mine introduced me to Saitos about 20 years ago. He had a Saito 40 in a Sig Four Star 40. He never used nitro, just FAI fuel and the little Saito would splutter and cough a bit but it would pull the Four Star through the most amazing maneuvers which he used to fly really close in. It never dead sticked despite all the spluttering. I was mightily impressed and these days, most of the engines I use regularly are Saitos. I have recently bought one of the newer FA-40a Saitos and have it flying in a Balsa USA Etrich Taube 40. I was worried that it might be a little underpowered but it has more than enough to fly the quite large model. All the best. Michael from Oz

Hi!
A 11x6 or a 12x4 , 12x5 is the prop size I would try. Remember when I flew the OS FS.40, 25 years ago that 11x6 was the best prop for the low winged airplane I had then, and the OS FS.40 and Saito .40 was about the same powerwise.
