Sålenge det ikkje finns fleire biler av denne typen så er det nok eg som er "Heimelaga" ja,hehe

Sorry, some norwegian blah blah there!I have thought about making some primitive suspension by putting springs between the uprights and wishbones,no fancy oilfilled dampers here! But this will eventually be done later on when its tested properly to see what i have to deal with and what needs to be done

A little update! The bearings was on its way out of the housings,so i had to make something to stop them.Took them out, drilled a 2 mm hole on top and bottom and put a screw from the top and i-dont-know-what-to-call-it in the bottom hole Maybe not so nice, but functional

Those bearings will stay in place now..I have used blue lock-tite on the outer case before to hold bearing in place..
in nitro stuff...Your looking good...Yeah after this firehammer of mine I think I could attemp to try my hand
at a home build unit....Keep up the good work my friend..AKA Slawhammer

I thought about gluing round the bearings with superglue, that would maybe have been enough, but it did it mechanically so i was sure that they will stay in place. You see the screws thats attached to the angled alu where the gearaxles goes through? Those are glued with a very good superglue,i had to remove one of the screws a while ago,i had to use a very big hammer, almost a little sledge to get it out

wow man i love this project you did. i'm in the middle of one myself, but i'm using a weedeater engine and a costom built rear axle and i used the frame and body from a rc walmart eclipes. it's big enough but it's taking a long time to do. i don't have the money to do it the way you are, but i think it will work. i'll be sure to post some pics when its all done.

Thank you!
You have to make a project thread like i have done here!Looking forward to see it
Sure it will work!I havent spent a lot on this build, except form the engine,90 $,body and wheels 250 $,the rest are things i have collected and not thrown in the bin yet,i thought they might become handy All the work have i done by myself too with some simple tools like a jigsaw, drill, hacksaw, files and so on.Had to borrow a lathe

Lately i have been making a case,or protection for the chain,if it should snap it wont destroy the body on the car and other things in its way.A bit optimistic thinking it will snap when it can handle a man weighing 200 pound stepping on it on a bicycle But you never know!
I have also made a cover for the "gearbox" too to prevent stones and similar to destroy the gears, this is made of an old case for a detachable front panel for my carstereo which i cut in half by the "hinge" and using the bottom of it.This has exactly the same width as the gearbox, and the length was perfect too Attached with a M5 plastic head thumb screw i've had lying around for a while

Nice. Love looking at this project!
BTW, you should have no problems with the handling of your car, even though it has no suspension. On my car, I was amazed by how well it handles on road considering it has no suspension, a solid rear axle and big meaty tires. Trying to drive it offroad is a different story though

You HAVE to make a video when its finished Always wanted to see how well the chainsaw engines perform on rc cars.

rckiwi:Yes,i bought the body from RACO.I have seen it here too,but now they only have the Beetle for some reason.Yes,HARM have the Capri body, and Carson too. This is the mk3 Capri, mine is the mk1

slawhammer:Thanks!Yes,you must do that, its very fun!Make you think and wonder more than you thought were possible

sam123:As long i use good tires it wont be the worst handling i think It is not built for handling either,it is built for fun!It has an enourmous torque, but not revving so high so i dont know what the top speed will be.Video will come sooner or later alligator

New little mod done,i found out it would have been nice to be able to stop the engine if the throttle get stuck at wide open,so i mounted a servo which operates the stopswitch. This works fine, but if i added a spring to it,i found out i would have a killswitch the mechanical way So i did,and now it returns to off-position when i unplug the battery. The same will happen if the battery runs out of power,or the signal is lost.I have a failsafe on the brake/throttle servo, when this engages it somehow makes both the steering servo and the killswitch servo to glitch a lot,but the killswitch servo goes to off-position so it stops the engine. It glitches the right way, hehe

It's always great when things go wrong, the right way. But.....wouldn't it be better to say, "I planned that." I am just wondering, is the servo actually connected to a channel, or is it just supplied power? Just curious because if I go a gas route with my truck, this might be my answer to the failsafe.

Yep,that would maybe have been better to say.I planned to make a stopswitch, but not a killswitch The stopswitch became a killswitch after i put the spring on,hehe.
Yes,the servo is connected to the 3rd channel on my radio.I wonder if i shall make one on my FG too,but i use the 3rd channel for my brakes which oprates as a slave for the 2nd channel

ok, so I understand.....the 3rd channel is receiving at all times, and I assume you have the trim set all the way up? Thats the only thing I can see it, so when you lose signal, the trim is lost and it returns to rest position. Pretty simple idea, and effective. I like it.

Yes,thats correct.I use a Hitec Agressor FM 40,the position of the servoarm is what you see in the pics,i cant trim it as this is preset on the transmitter.

Some more work done here,i had a K&N filter lying around,i had this fitted to the previous engine, and finally found out how to fit it on this one by leading a pipe thrugh the end of the housing and make an adapter.I also had a spare upright,so i drilled tapped the holes for the screws that goes through the wishbones and the steering arm,and fitted the bearing. The green x is for the steering arm

Nice. You should make a pipe for it too
Where abouts do you get your bearings and mounts from? The only bearing mounts I can get are made of cast iron

If i had the knowledge to build a pipe,it probably would have been done a long time ago I make the bearing mounts myself in a lathe, and i buy the bearings from a hardwarestore here in Norway.Bought a set for my Marder containing 8 bearings there, this was originally meant for inline skates but had the same measures and payed about 15 dollars for them

I have borrowed a lathe a place i used to work before, they are very kind to me to let me do this!A little bench lathe like this one would have make me a happy man,but i cant find any reasonable priced here in Norway. This would be perfect for my little workshop,i could have made a lot more things on impulse, now i have to plan what i am going to do,and it isnt always their lathe are aviable either
