ok so i decided to drive my truck on the baseball field at the local. bad idea, last night it rained. dumb me decided oh well ill just watch out for the puddles. 5 minuted later WOOSH. flew into the deepest puddle. so i brought it home. i dried everything off with some compressed air. everything else works but the esc. and i dont get it. i had the body on. there is like a drop of water inside the body. the steering servo was prolly submerged for a second and it works fine and same goes to the receiver. a drop of water on the esc and it rolls over and dies. it turns on but wont drive the motor and there is a dim red light is it dead or do i let it dry out?

I don't know how long you let it sit before you tried to drive, but I've recently submerged my RC10T two times in the last week(water was deep enough to submerge ALL electronics completely). I couldn't get to it that quick so it sat turned on in the puddles for at least 20-30 seconds. Everything turned on and lit up like yours, but like yours did not work. I got pissed and gave up on it for a day or two. I decided to try it and wahla, it works fine. Just give it time and you should be ok. By the way all of my electronics are Futaba and Novak I don't know if that makes a difference, but I'm guessing the higher quality stuff is probably sealed a little better and a little tougher. Hope this helps and your truck starts working soon!!!

you were unlucky. i had a xl5 esc that got wet and shut down(after acting wierd for a few moments) after i got it inside and let it dry off, it came back to life. this happend 3 diff times, 2 times in snow and once in a puddle.
i was driving my Mad Truck with a vxl motor and a sidewinder esc yestruday, saidn the same thing to myself "ill just avoid the puddles" i came to a stop in one, i didnt see it in time. got lucky, nothing shorted.

I had recent dealings with Traxxas about an XL-5 esc, this is what they said
quote:

If there was moisture involved in the failure or if the original connectors are not attached, the repair will be $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping. If no moisture was present and the original connectors are attached, the repair will be $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping. (Shipping to Canada, Alaska, Puerto Rico and Hawaii is $15.00. Shipping to international destinations other than Canada is $25.00)

now if yours is new, you may get something better. I ended up with a brand new one, plus a call from them asking if I was happy with everything. I was impressed by this personal service. I did not have the heart to tell the guy who called that I sold it
