Roger Shook, I'm working on your special item! I'm going to be busy over the next few days, but your item will be done sometime next week!

This was a lot of work to convert my lathe to CNC, but now that it is done, it is much better than I could have ever imagined!

Hey Gordon, I should be on your stuff and Ronnie's stuff soon as well. Sorry this took so long, but it is clearly worth it!

No worries - you're doing me a big favor, so a little patience on my part is no big deal

Sean,
is the base of your lathe one of the Chinese models from HarborFreight? I have one like this and was wondering how hard it is to convert to CNC.
You have all the cool toys....

Yup, chinese harbor freight lathe, I think it was around 700 bucks or so.

The cost of materials, motors, drives, all the blah blah was around 1,500.00.

Maybe a little less......

For around $2,300.00 I can provide all the parts necessary to convert the 9x20 lathe. I have no idea what it would take for the little lathe they make, if that's what you have.

I built mine as beefy as I could. I cut no corners, except for ground ballscrews (cause I could not find exactly what I needed). Ended up with .002 backlash. I can live with that, and the program dials it out anyway.

I purcahsed the three-in-one machine a few years ago, costs around $800 or so. I was taking night classes in machine shop until they closed the local votech center. It was a lot of fun, but before I got the chance to learn how to use the CNC machines I lost the clases.
I may take you up on that one of these days. It would certainly be fun to play with.
Thanks for showing us.

I really have no idea how, in just a few short years, you have managed to replace James Tiberius Kirk as my ultimate hero. But you did Sean!!!
