Okay, here is the deal. I have flown the heck out of my VQ Bf 109. I was using an old Thunder Tiger Pro .46, and she's no longer giving me the power I need....okay, want. If you saw my thread on the build and maiden of my 109, you will remember the very long glide I wasn't expecting on my maiden, which resulted in an overshot runway and some wingtip damage. After replacing the damaged wingtips, I have never had an issue with this baby.
But now, well, she's looking like the everyday flyer she has become. The underside of the wings have been patched several times from rocks kicking up into them. The covering on the rudder, vertical and horizontal stabs has loosened up, and let's face it. The covering on the VQ models just sags when hit with any sunlight or warmth (not heat, just warmth!)
I have never stripped a plane and recovered, so this will be a little bit of a challenge for me. Any tips will be appreciated.
I am going to dump the fixed landing gear and install a set of Robart Spring/Air retracts and most likely a Magnum XLS .52 with a pitts muffler.
I have been in contact with Tomas at VQWarbirds.com and have ordered a new cowl, wingtips and filets.
I need some opinions on covering. I need an easy to apply product, as like I said, this'll be my first attempt.
Thanks for any input.

First off, to remove the covering DON'T use a lot of heat as you might with Solarfilm, etc.
The white stuff they use for glue stays behind on the model and darn near impossible to remove.
I have had best success just peeling SLOWLY while cold.

Choice of new covering is endless but I have found Solartex to be one of the easiest to apply, especially working it around compound curves.
It can be easily painted.

My favourite would have to Koverall, a polyester woven fabric, no adhesive, you use dope to stick it on and heat to shrink then dope to seal.
Holds its surface tension well over time and is very strong. A bit trickier to apply though than the iron on films.
