Status: offline 		Using it in a Avistar 40, had my old OS 46fx in and like the performance, but the bearings are making noise and I'm experiencing a lot of dead sticks when idling down past half trottle. After my instructors tried and tried to tune, check for air leaks etc. it is recommended that I get a new engine to continue training and tear down the FX over the winter. My question is: I'm going to go with ST and trying to decide on which size, and type, would like to maintain about the same performance as the OS46fx.

ST G40 Ringed BB $59.99
ST G45 ABC, BB $74.99
ST G51 Ringed BB $84.99

Theses are current prices at Tower. Let me hear your thoughts or preferences.

Status: offline 		the g40 is alright but the 45 is better and if you get the 51 you will just end up benching the fx46 for the next plane.

Status: offline 		I might be worth mentioning the G51 works best with larger props. I've even seen them with 12X6's on them making great power and not running the least bit hot. I have a G51 converted to run gasoline w/spark ign. and it just keeps on a ticking. Over 35 hrs. since converting to gas with zero problems. I have 4 of the G40's with two of them being almost 20 years old and they still run great. The two oldies are Italian made but the two Chinese made ones are just as good in quality and have performed flawlessly. I have one G45 which is also an awesome performer. Hope you have as good luck with yours as I have.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the input guys! I'm dead in the water so I just went ahead and ordered the ST45. Should have it by Tues or Weds. next week. I let you know what I think about it.

Status: offline 		An oither surprise is the ST 34 , Just got one turns a top flight 10x6 at 11400 on 5% nitro, quite nice 40 power in a 25 size case, it is a waiting a davis diesel head which will up the prop an other inch in diameter. My ST 40 turns a 12x6 about 9500 with a conversion also ringed , , great quality at a low price martin
