hello been an avid rc flier for a while now. been stealthing around this forum for a bit now and must say I am mystified by the rc tank hobby. I love to detail my planes but what I've seen done with these tanks are incredible. I've been to the mato toys ca website and checked out their tanks, ebay alot and to tamiyas website. tamiya is a little pricey. but seem to be the highest in quality. so I have got it narrowed down to a few models. the first one is from mato toys. the second(yellow) i found on ebay uk, has anyone put these models through their paces? the yellow one is more expensive but seems to have more features. I read alot of info on both and seen the vids but I am looking for any personal opinions on these models. I am very excited about jumping into this this hobby and these tanks are fascinating!!!!

Welcome new guy (removeb4flt)

The HL tank is a great way to get started in the hobby, I have HL, WSN and Tamiya, The Mato Tiger I (HL) will come ready to run with metal gear boxes, the Creeping Death is the same HL Tank but a Panzer III from the pic, but modified, most of this you can do yourself with the help of the other tankers and this Forum.

You can now also buy these here in the US and save some shipping cost and shipping time from RC Scale Model, I have not used them yet, they where not selling at the time I bought mine from Mato.

Tamiya may cost more but I think they are the best and I like to be able to build from a kit. I picked mine up from Hong Kong and saved about 50% even with the high shipping costs.

Have fun in this new hobby.

Gary

thanks for a fast reply!!!! reading alot about the recoil options. I know the creaping death tank has the barrel that recoils but does the mato brand name version have this also? I read the post about the german recoil kit but it seems to delete the airsoft. I really want to be able to zap things and love airsoft. creaping death is usa also as far as shipping.

The recoil is not going be on any HL tank other then Creeping Death, it is one of the mods done to a stock HL tank, the airsoft is also something I needed at first and it still fires hard out of my Panzer III stock, but the rest have stopped firing much more then 10 to 15 feet. I have, like others, gone the IR way, much more fun and realistic, but I will keep the Panzer III with airsoft as long as it keeps working well.

I've got my Panzer III shooting 150 feet. You just need to make the right modifications to the airsoft gun and barrel.

Welcome to the RC tank world. I have 35 of them but my work is on the scale model and conversion aspect and let a good electtronics guy do the elctronic modifications. i just converted one of my M-26s to an M-46 and it now has a recoil unit and will be fullly set up with El mod shortly. The Blitz does my work and has done a super job on 4 of my difficult conversion tanks. (Phil = fluegivation@gmail.com. ) He can give you specifics on mods and electronics. For IR tank battle, his DBU systems are as good as Tamiyas and fully compatable. HL and WSN tanks can be set up with better electronics and upgrades and run great at a lot lower cost than Tamiya and also give you more models to choose from.
The RCU FAQ is a vaulable source of info on about any RC tank being used.

Just wanted to add that the first pic, the left one, is the re-badged Matorro version of the HL (Heng Long) Tiger 1 - different electronics, non-compatible transmitter, smaller battery - higher price. You're much better off grabbing a S&S Heng Long (Smoke and Sound) tank, or spending a heap and getting the modified version (Creeping Death).

The other replies are right. The PZPFW III you are looking at is the Creeping Death version. It's a modified Heng Long model with working recoil and laser range finder/ target indicator. The catch is it's twice the price of the Heng Long model. If you ask around this forum you will get help on how to make these modifications yourself and save yourself some money towards your next tank project. Looks like the big tanks have got you hooked. Welcome......

Hey! Go for one of the new HL Panzer IVs! They're the best tanks they've done yet!

Depends how you build it. Or get with Thomas John Murphy and buy one of his ready to go. Send him a PM asking how much.

heres what I came up with for figures,
$87.00-tank
$62.00-recoil system but deletes airsoft not including shipping and handling from Germany??
$29.00-high velocity gun (found it on ebay) includes shipping and handling for it.
$10.00 -laser pointer pen device, just got back from lowes seen them in the "bargain isle".
$10.00- for tracer system just a guess at this point. not really sure. seems to work pretty cool after reading some posts about the bulldog model.
$40.00 shipping and handling on the average for tank i figured roughly giving mato and all other vendors

total $238.00
the creepingdeath model lists for $250.00 shipping included so all and all this to me seems like an excellent deal for the features it has. my next course of action will be to pick up a creeping death panzer 3 and a mato panzer 3 and let the field trials commence.
