Hi,

I´m building a 1:12 J3 Cub and plan to make a laser cut kit for it... For the moment I´m waiting for small servos before maiden flight.....

Wingspan is 780mm and the empty weight is 45 grams, as in Picture, covered with Solite.

What motor are you going to use for power?

I have Flyline's .020 J3 Cub plans that were never kitted... would be a neat model to see fly.

At just under 30" span, that is what I'd consider a perfect size for a Pee Wee powered project. And with a laser cut kit there wouldn't be all those little sticks to cut and glue!

Hello Again!

I have now maiden the mini Cub. I have flown it for over ten flights from 4m/s to 0 m/s wind !! It flies extremely slow and nice ! Fligt time with an 200mAh 2c LiPo is over 10 minutes. I am now planning to create a demo video and tried to use the Cam at the same time flying yesterday...not to easy....

The kit is getting closer and there is a web site for the model, in Swedish only for the moment...maybe google translate can help a bit....

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=www.modellbyggeriet.se%2Fcub&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&sl=sv&tl=en

Price for kit is 390 Swedish Krona. About 65 $...

Best regards

Rikard

Yes, I've followed the construction thread of that one on the swedish forum too. Looks really nice!
I'm impressed by the low overall weight too.

I would like to do a conversion too glow though...
A throttled PeeWee or a Peewee in texaco mode would be nice.

I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but I think the engine weights about 25g with tank (but without fuel), one will still need a small battery for the RX though, might be another 15-17g. So about 40 grams in total to replace the electric motor and lipo, does that sound doable?

I don't want to pick on people who are into electrics, every one has their thrill or thing, but it is not for me.
Main reason for fuel engines is because that's how it all started I guess, I'm used to it and I like to tinker with engines. It is more scale like and there is an extra thrill when you get an engine to run properly and it flies a model nicely. Electric motors will never have that kind of "soul" to them, as I see it. There is no challenge with electrics (appart from combining the correct components of coarse), if you want power and lightweight it is just a matter of spending more money rather than tuning something by your self to reach an optimum performance with what you have.

So it is simply not for me and I don't own any electric motors at all, but I have plenty of small engines that need a home.

Hi,

My outrunner is 7 grams, prop 2grams, battery 13 grams and speed controller 6 gram = 28grams and flying weight 83g I think up to 100gram take off is okey, but a little bit quicker..

Ok, those numbers are hard to beat, maybe one should use a 0.010 instead then...
How much thrust do you get/need from the electric setup?

Hi,

The motor with the prop i use gives me with "GWS 4025 prop 11,000 rpm, 1.4 amps, ~53gr thrust" But i flies at 1/4 of trottle !! Do not need so much trust ..

I only starts on full power and fly under half all the time !

Hope this helps.
