Either on the diesel forum, or here, discussion came up about Peter Burford's exquisite little .33cc diesel engine. I had looked at it here, http://peterburford.com.au./gallery.php some time ago but surely wasn't awake because I just recently acquired the throttle of that marvellous little engine. To say that I was impressed would not do it justice. I was blown away. Now THIS is how a throttle should be made, complete with the most essential, adjustable air bleed. Look at the fine detail in the crucial parts, the needle and barrel. The barrel has the fit and finish of a piston. Even the throttle stop screw and the idle screw are finished to perfection. You rarely see the stop screw machined at the tip cleanly like that to engage the slot in the barrel.

The NEAR perfect comes only as a result of the flange mounting. This is one of the better ways to mount anything to anything but that makes it a challenge to mount it to anything that doesn't use a flange,,, as with most other engines. Throttling the TD .020 was most troublesome and I believe it was related to the main needle's inconsistency. As the pics show, THIS throttle has none of that nonsense.

The specially neat thing is that the size of the barrel will allow boring out to suit even an .06. Neat.

Also, the best kept secret in 1/2A is Peter's version of a 6 X 3 and 6 X 4 prop. The Taipan series of props offered many years ago, was truly innovative as they managed to keep the pitch true almost all the way to the hub. To keep the hub's thickness reasonable related to the usual crank's threaded portion, a bit of a compromise was made to the final bit of the blade nearest the hub. Peter has retained that strategy in this very well executed airscrew but as 1/2As use a bolt, he made the hub as thick as necessary with no compromises.

The unique thing here is that this 6" prop was made to suit his engine. What other engine manufacturer takes the trouble to do that?

It is really delightful and well engineered. I look froward to how you mount it on an AP Wasp 061 or other 1/2a size crankcase.

Hi Jim,

First try will be to get the TD .020 to throttle reliably. If this throttle doesn't do it, then it can't be done. At least not without mods to the engine. We'll see. As far as using it on "large" engines, no need,,, I have the CS throttles for that. I just felt it should be pointed out that it COULD be used on .06s and the like because the relatively large barrel allowed for a larger bore,,, very close to the stock bore on a Norvel.

Andy,
Watching this version of "Adventures With Andy" with great interest.

I believe I picked up a spare carb with my little pb.33 engine.

And the props....everything Peter touches is magic!

Andy, You need to post a picture of the carby next to a 1/4" unc. nut or similar so the guys can see how small n cute it is.
I can only agree with Andy and Rob on the quality of Peters work, all the pieces of the motor are first class fit n finish and the props excellent.
