I am planning on buying an F-15 which will be flown off of grass runways most of the time and I will put my Jet Central Super Eagle turbine in it (30 pounds of thrust). I want the version with ailersons and flaps and of course the ARF versions.

I am trying to decide between: Skymaster, Jet Legend and Fei Bao.

Can you guys with experience with the F-15 or with these manufactures help me out with some information so I can make the right decision on which one to purchase?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

If you need to ask me for more information please do.

Thanks Again,
Don

Hi,

I have a Jet Legend completed and ready to test fly.

I have two concerns with your post:
1 This plane has tiny wheels, maybe 2 inch. I think it would be difficult to fly from grass.
2 The stock fuel tanks hold 90 ounces of fuel, your flight time maybe very short.

The kit is very nice and it assembles quickly, I would buy this ARF again based on my experience.
Good Luck, let me know if you have any questions regarding the Jet Legend F-15.

You might look at Fly Eagle thru TBM:

Thanks George I will check out the information you provided.

John,
I normally use 3" on the grass. I see that Camlex has listed 3 1/4" mains and 2 1/4" nose as the Jet Legends F-15 landing gear.
Will yours except larger tires but it came with only 2"?

I agree I might have a hard time with only 2" tires on the mains.

Thanks,
Don

The mains are 3.25" and the nose is 2.25".
I do not think larger wheels would allow the gear doors to close.

John,
Are you saying the 3.25's will work but larger won't due to closing of the doors?

Or, are you saying the 3.25's will work but the doors won't close?

Thanks,
Don

Avonds new F-15 ARF looks really good. Can go with tailerons or install flaps and ailerons. Full composite, no bypass highly detailed. My first generation Eagle Flys great, would'nt go with anything else F-15 wise.

I have a JL F-15 and I would not buy another one. Although Dante from Camlex was great to deal with, I had numerous issues with the quality. The lower part of the struts on both mains bent after smooth landings. Problem was they were not compressing into the upper halves. Instead they were jamming against the the inside so the lowers took the brunt of the landings. The top of the retracts were cutting into the main fuel tanks so much that I had to shim the main gear so the tanks could fit. This prevented the wheels from retracting totally into the fuse so I couldn't put on the gear doors( I just recently corrected that issue by chopping away at the top of the fuse in the main hatch area so the tanks had more room and I removed the shims so now the wheels retract and I could put in gear doors). I had the main header tank split at the seam causing a major fuel leak and had to take apart the fuse to get to it and repair it(I'm running the fueler pump with a 6 cell pack). The paint quality is ok but they missed certain parts altogether. If I had to do it again, I would look at Skymaster or Yellow.

Thanks Thud Driver, will do...

Have you had any experience with the Fly Eagles?

Don

No, just that the price was very attractive, some things came installed and it was about the same size as all the others.

There's an active thread here on RCU about Fly Eagle models.

I own the FB F-15 and have owned one of the first SM F-15's. They are identical in size and design. IMHO you want to steer clear of the taileron version. The aileron version is much more responsive and you don't feel like you are moving the ailerons and waiting for it to turn. The FB model came with preinstalled gear doors and cylinder, and the tubing was attached to the cylinder, that was great. It took only a few hours to get it ready to fly. It also came out lighter that the SM version (albeit I had one of the early models, so I am only speaking on terms of what I had, I do not know how the newer version compares). The gear in the SM and FB versions look and feel identical. The paint on the FB model i s excellent, I have the camo version and it is better than I could have done for the money. I am still waiting to fly the FB model, but it feels like it will fly just fine, given the weight and the fact that it did not need any weight in the nose to balance it. I have installed a WrenSS so I do not know if it will be enough (18 pounds of thrust) I have had some folks tell me that 18 is not enough. I have a P-80 which I may swap in to the F-15 prior to the maiden just to make sure.
For the moeny I do not think you could go wrong with the FB model, especially if you buy it with the gear door package.

I haven't seen a FEJ F-15 in person, but if it's anything like their F-16 it should be the best bargain out there. There is a Fly Eagle F-15 build thread in this forum. You should check it out and maybe PM the guys who have built one. I'm very pleased with my F-16.
