Are the pull start pre filters from Outerwears any good? Some people say they reduce airflow and can cause overheating. What are your thoughts?

I've run them on all my 1/5s and haven't had any overheating problems. Just helps keep crap out of the pull start assembly. Especially on the Baja 5B, because the side guards act like scoops and pick up massive amounts of shrubbery. If you're running an on-road car you can probably get away without having it.

I have a humvee 1/5 and sometimes I take it in sandy areas and I want to keep the sand out of the pull start.

I'd go for it then, it'll just save you some headaches later by prolonging the life of the pull start.

it will not make your motor overheat. most of the airflow comes from under the motor anyway. its well worth it. while your at it, pick up some outerwears for your airfilter. that is even more important if you run in the sand. small grains will get sucked up thru the carb and wind up scratching the cylender and piston

And shock covers too . Keeps dirt out of those hard to reach places. Check out the ones made by Badhorsie, they're like $10 for a set and work perfectly. No need to buy the expensive Outerwears ones.
