I have built for more years than I want to admit.

Cost of plane airframes, on left, ARF $600, plane in center - total scratch built -wood all hand cut ~$400, plane on right ARF $340.
plane on left 8 hours RTF, plane in center 80-100 hours RTF, plane on right 6 hour RTF.
Above cost is for airframe only, does not include any equipment.

There is a time to build verses $$$ trade off.

Another thing we can do is send an email to Tower and ask them to please put a “Made in the USA” statement on the info pages of all their US products so you will know what to buy.

Not just the prices of ARF's are going up, but kits as well. However, it seemed that only products that imported/distributed by Hobbico/Great Planes are going up in price. Just look at the prices for Great Planes, Top Flite kits, Futaba radio gear, and OS/Super Tiger engines. Last time I checked, Top Flite has big bold "Made in USA" sticker on the box.

My MonoKote rolls are marked “Made in the USA” and I also noticed that my Tower Kaos 40 kit I have stored away is marked “Made in the USA”.

understand this forum is for our hobby, RC airplanes.
But our hobby doesn't exist in a vacuum.
It is affected, as everything is, by the economic environment in which we live.
And so I hope I haven't offended anyone and that I will be forgiven for speaking about these hard realities. From now on, I will restrict my comments to RC.
Best Regards to All
JC

JC brilliant post , best explantion of the Federal reserve I have ever seen , most americans do not know these facts at all and it does impact our income and our hobby

The increase in prices has everything to do with ARFs, and the hobby in general. Eventually, the higher costs will start influencing what's available on the market, and our choices will be more limited due to lack of demand. Even engine prices can make or break a purchase. It's why I'm limited to 40 size or smaller. This material is worth discussing. Perhaps as more word gets out, it may give some encouragement to government officials who are considering the regulation of commodities investors. This will at least help some in the reduction of the cost of materials used in the manufacture of our models. I would also like to see some fed policy that would help strengthen currencies, to reduce the use of energy sources and food as a hedge against inflation.

Everyone commenting on Democrats,I don't understand. The high gas prices, reduced taxes on rich and corporations, and 10trillion in debt=declining value of dollar all occured during EIGHT years of total Republican control. So vote republican again.Definition of insane=Continuing to do the same thing yet somehow expecting a different result.

You must be unfamiliar with the Democratic governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm. She promised to "blow us away" with her economic plan for the state. Now we have the highest unemployment rate in the US and higher taxes to boot (on the middle class).

As if the factors combining to create this situation were all the fault of the Republicans.

This has been building for years...Clinton was just lucky that he happened to be in charge during the internet boom, or the decline might have started sooner.

Factors causing this situation may or may not be fault of those in control, but the fact that the CEO's(leaders=managers) of our country did nothing about them and now their party's(Republican)nominee for CEO would now have us believe its a mental recession(CEO of Republican's denies problem exists) is their fault. You have to admit a situation exists before you can do anything about it. Insanity= Continuing to do the same thing and somehow expecting a different result! keep voting Republican

The Republicans are responsible for Hobbico raising their pricesI love it. I guess I should blame Bush for all of my crashes in the last 7 years what with Republicans being responsible for all that has gone wrong in that period!

ARF prices on the rise, is not the Republicans problem. This is not the Democrats problem. It’s our problem. This is not just a problem with Tower, or Great planes or any of the others. To blame it on them would be like shooting the messenger. This country has problems.

For Me it is time to start building some of the kits I have laying around.

john

Fun, by another name, building.

With the economy the way it is.....
We are all working more....
This leads Less time to build......
I have a hard time just finishing a .50 size ARF let alone spend 100's of hours on a kit......
Then after I put them together...... My longest Lasting plane after it's first flight recently, has only been a couple of weeks!......
Just very bad luck.... I guess...

I had the chance to buy up some ARF's from the Great planes take over of Goldberg and Lanier....... and the Disc. of Great Planes air crafts.....
I don't think that there will be deals like those for a very long time!>....

Glad I buoght them but If I dump one of them in the ground I will be hard pressed to find parts....

I hope we all can get through these hard times.....

JK....
