I'm going to run the smoke pump (JetCat) off the ECU battery which is a Duralite 7.4 Li-Mn. Do I need to put a regulator between the battery and the smoke pump or will the pump handle the voltage which is about 8.3 coming off a fresh charge.

No need for a regulator.

btw, If you use the ECU to operate the smoke pump you can't vary the flow in the air.

I just have it "Y'd" off the ECU battery lead for power to the pump

I have it aux 4 (knob) to adjust the flow rate and turn it on and off with the mix switch (switch behind the Rudd D/R switch) that way I can adjust flow while in the air.

Is there a better way to do it? I'm open for suggestions.

Thanks

Sorry, I thought you were using the ECU to control the unit. You are doing it just as I did. It should work great.
