most of the ducted fans iv looked at use brushless motors. iv too wondered if a ducted fan would be better for a airboat. i suppose size would be a factor. its not hard to get a 10'' prop on a 540 motor, but iv not seen any ducted fans that large.

im using a puller prop on my electric boat right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoDwDDKafwM
its a 20t motor and a 10X6 prop. i have a 10X8 prop coming in the mail soon, i hope that will increase the speed more. the real problem with using brushed motors it the runtime. with a 7.2v 3300mah battery i get just 4:30 runtime. a brushless motor and good lipo batt would increase runtimes alot.

well im gonna get a ducted fan,but i dont know if the fan is too powerful cause it has 900grams of thrust so that should be more than enough

hey, i found a vid of a airboat using a ducted fan witha brushless motor. the ducted fan snaps off, but the fact that it moved so quickly on land should mean that it will go much faster in water. his boat it pretty small, so, you may want to make your simillar.

pinky, that boat looks great. id say it will be pretty fast, as the overall size is small and the battery/motor will have good power. looks like all you need is to wire things up and make a rudder/linkage and cover the top of the hull and your done.

Yup its a 3c lipo with a 4900kv motor be about 50,000 rpm with about 2lb of thrust efficient speed up to 200mph
Aiming for 1.5lb boat total when done all gear only ways about .5lb so I think it’s doable
O ya its only 10" long by 6" wide I cant what to see what happens

Duct Fans need a high rpm so if your motor is a low Kv I would go with a prop you will get more out of it

wow thats a small boat with lots of thrust should run great. if you put so0me wings on it could be a plane for that size of a hull.
is the hull 100% balsa?
