I need to replace some gears in one of my HS-225BB servos.

Can I replace the nylon gear set with Hitec metal gears, p/n 56396, essentially making it into a MG servo, or is there more to it than that?

Thanks,

Bob

Direct replacement:
HS-205BB/205MG/225BB Metal Gear Set = #56396
or new number
HS-225/5245 Metal Gear set = #55018

Not worth it IMHO Bob. The tiny plastic gear which is driven by the motor-cog is common to both the nylon and MG version and that's the one that breaks every time if you have a knock or excessive loading. So what's the point in having a metal gear set if the one gear that is always going to break is still nylon and will always fail first anyway?

The HS-225MG now uses a hybrid Karbonite/Brass first gear that is much stronger than the origional nylon first gears. Note that this gear cannot be metal due to RF noise created by the motor. If you look at most of the manufacturers metal geared servos you will see that most have a nylon first gear in all their servos.

OK thanks for the reply XJet, Mike, and A.T.

I presume that the 55018 series is the metal gear set that has the Karbonite gear in it?

Thanks a lot,

Bob
